Hmmm, very interesting!

I'm not sure what to make of it - do we think that there's an associated puzzle?

Either way, I'm happy to see that FacilityJ is back!

The puzzle looks to me like this image at the end:



It's a 30x10 grid of four colors. My first thought was that each color is two bits in an ASCII sequence, but a) this would be 600 bits, which isn't a multiple of 8, and b) I'd expect to see more repetition in the pattern, which a quick eyeball isn't giving me.

My second thought is that it's a DNA sequence, and that there's a mapping from {B,G,R,Y} to {A,C,G,T}. We're missing the codon shifts to decode it with though.

Hoo boy, back in action...

My thought exactly.

Another thought: both "division" and "power" have nice mathematical meanings. Jay has used titles as clues/keys before. (The key to knowledge is understanding --> "understand" was the vigenere key, if I remember correctly).


Ugh, have to do some real math at work now, instead of the fun math here.

iMouse! Whatsup man...

I tried with 16 of those and out comes pure garbage. As phipunk said, text encoded as binary would have much more structure. More specifically, the first of every 4 colors should almost always be the same because the first 2 bits in the ASCII code of all letters (upper and lowercase) are 01, numbers are 00, and anything starting with 10 or 11 is extended ASCII, i.e. garbage symbols. This is not the case here, neither reading horizontally or vertically.

Not really, as such - all of the bases are generally distributed roughly equally.

Yes, credit where it's due: you were the one to point that out.

You also observed that 600 is not a multiple of 8, which I think nails this down as not ascii. Unless it's done with 6-bit ints, and we need to pad the bytes with ... no. Not gonna go down that road.

Of course, as has already been observed, 300 is divisible by 3, which would put us in the difficult position of having 100 bases without really knowing what to make of them.

There is BLAST. I don't know how to use it, but I've got a friend who's an expert. If someone could give me the 24 possible sequences that result from mapping RGBY to GCTA (scripting is honestly not my strong suit) I can pass it on to him and see what pops to the surface, if anything. PM me and I give you an email address to send it to.
