Tachyon Profile Update:
Quote:

To my "Brother" :

Hope you're figuring it all out. I am en route to my next location. So in the meantime...

Step 6: A small test.

(see below)

This code translates to:
Quote:
I/II [E] 0/0
X: 6B36676B38B2B2E03EE03AE033
Y: A respectable score (or the room where the players dwell)

The Y: part of the message was interpreted as follows:
A respectable score was a reference to Tach's bowling score from the "Knock 'Em Down" video=112. Putting this together we get "Room 112 where the players dwell," which is a line from a Puff Daddy song, "Only You."

Around 6PM PST, Tachyon decided to throw us a bone:

Quote:

[ a small hint: X decoded by Y = Z ]

Around 7:18PM PST, Tachyon realized we still weren't getting it:

Quote:

[ is Doug Ramsey around? what about Warlock? ]

This let us know that the puzzle was a cipher. (Ramsey's code name was Cipher)

We may have solved the cipher. Using the uppercase only set, with the outer ring of the decoder from the Movie puzzle and the inner ring from the Loveline puzzle, we applied the E and 112 clues as follows:

For the first two characters, match the outer ring E with the inner ring 1. For the third character, match the outer ring E with the inner ring 2. Repeat this 1-1-2 pattern throughout the puzzle. However where we were given 0s we translated as 0 and also skipped over with the 112 pattern. Using this method, Tigerlily, Shifty and Sparky found this (decoded from hex):
Quote:
TESTING 1 2 3

The decode looks like this

top line: the key 1 1 2 (with 0s as 0s or spaces)
middle line: input code
bottom line: output hex
    ]

Translation of the code:

Quote:
I/II [E] 0/0
X: 6B36676B38B2B2E03EE03AE033
Y: A respectable score (or the room where the players dwell)

Eep! I started a thread on this and now I can't find it! Should I not be starting threads unless I'm a moderator? And anyway, what I had done was translate the message from base64 to hex and the final result was:

Quote:
I/II [E] 0/0
X: 6B36676B38B2B2E03EE03AE033
Y: A respectable score (or the room where the players dwell)

I think the answer to Y is 112.

Tachyon got a respectable score on the bowling alley (112) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKH6l5aI_RY

also:

Room where the players dwell leads me to the following song lyrics:

http://www.lyrics007.com/112%20Lyrics/Only%20You%20Lyrics.html

"Room 112, where the players dwell" comes from this..

X obviously has something to do with the decoder ring...but the first line simply confuses me.

:edit: and good catch to scalare, though I don't see where the lyrics lead us...maybe the next drop will be at a motel (rm 112)?

Your thread was the second thread on this topic...to reduce confusion, we're trying to keep one thread per topic. Thanks for doing the translating work!

Interesting note:

Tachyon's Gemma videos are numbered I/II, like the first line of the puzzle.

A respectable score could be a "haul" in gangster terminology.

Players room could be "hall" as in billiard hall.

What if I is the first sequence of the decoder ring and II is the second?

Assuming I is the outer, we would be decoding I to II, so I/II makes sense, right?

What are we decoding though? X?

Newbie writing, so feel free to ignore this...

The first clue was warpylol, in respect to Ipod Opera member on youtube.

Another member is Jimmyjm, who has a video taken from a video game set to "thriller" (if I remember correctly). This video is taken when the player enters this room and sees a bunch of zombies playing and dancing.

I know..another try grasping at straws. But hey, if I grab enough, I can make a broom!

So I don't really know the first thing about decoder rings, but the one I made doesn't have any 'O's on it. So I'm wondering how to decipher the "EO" in the puzzle.

112 is also the ascii character "p". Perhaps it's a description how to align the decoder disc?

Could you align the capital letter E to the small letter p?
