Actually, I had to do the fight that way to make the results reflect my utter hatred for the fruitcake. All the googlefights had fruitcake whooping carrot cake's delicious booty. It didn't stand a chance against chocolate though! Apparently, people like the stuff... who knew?

Though, in my heart, fruitcake will always be a terrible thing to do to a kid.
Granny-"Here honey, would you like some cake?"
Innocent five year old me: "Sure, granny, thanks!"
....sometimes at night I can still taste the horror.

They shouldn't be allowed to call it cake. It's like baker's chocolate. False advertising. sick and wrong.

awesome!! sounds like my sister and sprite; she had food poisoning from the dirty water, and our "grandma" (doesn't deserve that title) says "here; 7 up will cure it" which it DIDN'T, no matter HOW OFTEN she forced it down my sister's throat. (btw, 7up, Sprite, both lemony soda water).

besides being evil incarnate? Here's the official definition:

fruit·cake (frōōt'kāk')
n.

1. A heavy spiced cake containing nuts and candied or dried fruits.
2. Slang A crazy or an eccentric person

in truth, it's a okay spice cake stuffed with the nastiest unrecognizable candied fruits. i tell you, it's sick and wrong.

Finally, a thead I can contribute to.

The key to really good fruit cake, is it must be soaked heavily in rum.

Luminous, apparently you are right.

I will take your word on it, though. You could drown it in chocolate, fudge, and whipped cream but those bizarre little nastyfruits will still be there- tricking kids into thinking that's the good part and then scarring their memories for all eternity. *shudder*

Here we are, worrying about carrot cake and fruit cake when there is something more insidious out there...

Tomato Soup Cake

2 cups sugar
1/2 cup shortening (crisco)
2 eggs
1 can tomato soup (Campbell's)
1/2 cup milk
2 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 ground cloves
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup floured raisins

Cream together sugar,shortening.
Add eggs, soup,and milk.
Sift together flour, baking powder, soda, cloves, cinnamon, salt.
Mix batters together.
Fold in raisins.
Pour into a greased floured 13x9 baking dish.
Bake at 375 degrees for 40 minutes.

Ziola, I had no idea this existed. The people who invented this have Daniel. I am sure of it.

I'm just glad Granny never got a hold of this recipe, God bless her heart.
