first time, long time here but i thought some of the names used in the series were interesting, dont know how much of it was intentional.
jonas is a variant of either john or jonah. jonah was an old testament prophet [the one who got swallowed by the whale], john was one of the four new testament gospel writers
daniel was an old testament prophet too, he was cast into a den of lions but was 'miraculously' saved
also cassie [or cassandra] in greek mythology was given the gift of prophecy but was cursed in that no one would ever believe her predictions
nothing too good for lucy or gemma but the name denderah is the name of the modern arab town. the ancient site is Ta-ynt-netert [taken from wikipedia] and that means 'She of the Divine Pillar' - poss meaning Bree |

Haha, yeah, that always makes me wonder if maybe itscassie is canon after all. _________________ Hey! That was my lucky assassin hat! |

Welcome, tristan!
This is interesting. Do you think the name Lucy might have been chosen because there is no biblical Lucy?
I think you are onto something here, and I welcome you again!

Though "Lucy" and "Lucifer" are both of Latin origin, "Lucy" only means "light," while "Lucifer" means "light bringer" (and in ancient times - including in the Bible passage that made it famous - it was actually used specificially as a reference to the "morning star," Venus; that whole thing about it being the angelic name for Satan was a massive contextual oversight the Church made centuries ago because of chronic tunnel vision). |

I think the difference in Lucy and Lucifer could be overlooked because of how bizarre it would be to name a female character "Lucifer" (and as people still refer to him as "the morning star," it's not unbelievable). The satan of course, means "adversary," (and not "ultimate abyss of evil" or whathaveyou)-- which would be fitting for Lucy, and the giant grey area that is the Order. _________________ Hey! My point was more that the meaning or origin of the word didn't have any connection to Satan, and it would kind of be a misstep to go in that direction with it. Though it's such a commonly held misconception that I guess it would serve the purpose well enough. |

I understood, and that was my point when I said that people still refer to the satan as "the morningstar"... since that's still so commonly done, it doesn't seem an unlikely connection to me, based on a misconception though it may be. _________________ Hey! That was my lucky assassin hat! |

Ah, I see now. Sorry. Funny that this talk of misunderstandings had me make one. Anyway, yeah, I guess you're right. I don't have to like it, but I guess it makes sense well enough. |

i think lucy could definitely be taken as lucifer-satan [especially with the adversary meaning].
its kind of a stretch but what i wondered was whether the fact each of the characters closest to bree have names with prophetic significance means that bree is thought to be the prophet for the order of denderah |

That doesn't seem like so much of a stretch-- they definitely all have that prophet thing going. Aye, I'd like to delve further into a theory I have to add on to that, but I'm lacking the time.

elaborate -- i understand that lucifer translates to bringer of light (lucius mean roughly the same thing), but i always thought that it was because satan was God's right hand man before he betrayed him. |

The word Satan (i.e. Lucifer) means "the accuser" in Hebrew; while devil is "tempter". _________________ You can call me Juli or LLP, whichever suits your fancy.
