This topic is intended to be a discussion of Bree's "Purity Bond" as it relates to ceremony preparation for The Hymn of One.

The bond has been assumed to be a vow of chastity. The "Purity Bond" may or may not require ceremony candidates to be chaste, but it does require them to be trustworthy.

The subject first came up in the YouTube comments for the LG15 video Boy Problems... when a YouTube user, laura1101, asked Bree the following question:

laura1101 wrote:
hey, do you like him?? im not trying to be nosy or anything but why would ur parents not like it that dan likes you? it'll sort itself out in the end anyway! just act normal around him:)

Bree replied:

lonelygirl15 wrote:
It has to do with our beliefs about "purity bonds" I know it's complicated but I don't think I can go into it here. they would never go for me dating.

The "Purity Bond" was then assumed to be a vow of chastity. Later, in the video My Difficult Decision, Bree says:

lonelygirl15 wrote:
I was so upset when I got home that my parents knew that I'd snuck out. I told them everything. They said that I had violated my purity bond and that I shouldn't be allowed to do the ceremony.

Sneaking out to meet Daniel, Bree had violated her "Purity Bond." Clearly, the act of sneaking out is not a problem with Bree's chastity; Bree's sneaking out is a violation of her trustworthiness.

The "Purity Bond" doesn't only require chastity, although that still may be a part of it; The Hymn of One requires ceremony participants to be trustworthy.

What does being trustworthy have to do with dating? I'm not seeing the connection. Confused

My pesonal theory is that Bree cannot be contaminated by certain chemicals or substances. It would jeopordize whatever the Order has planned for her.

Oh yeh so it wasn't by sneaking out with Daniel that might have been the problem, it was going somewhere there might have been drink/ppl smoking etc etc. Very good, and thats why her Dad didn't seem to mind Daniel too much hmm?

Hey, I found another little blurb about the purity bond from Bree, not sure if it's been seen/talked about before or not. It's on My Lazy Eye, i'm not sure how to link to it, but the comment 'page' on youtube is 325, but I'm not sure how that works. It is a response to a question from another user.

(not sure I should keep the name or not?):
He Bree!
I reckoned I'll finish up (hopefully have some studying to do) by asking you what are "purity bonds"? Cant make any sense out of that Sad

Well I'd be glad if you could specify that
So long

It's a bond or agreement that children in my religion make with their parents. It has to do with honoring your elders and your body. It's kinda complicated Smile

It's vague, and kinda what we already know, but thought i'd throw it out there anyway.

oh wow
that's helpful
she actually SAYS what the bond is
at least we can plausibly beleive it isn't something weird like "don't talk to people who's names start with the letter D on days that start with the letter T"

Thats really interesting. I assume, that like a lot of religions, she can't "date" somebody outside of her religion.

So far, it sounds like part of the hymn's ten commandments. Same basic idea as in almost every other religion.

In her case, this seems to be more on the extreme cult side. You know, ulta secretive, blah blah, etc.

It doesn't. But being trustworthy is another ingrediant into the cake mixture for being 'pure'.

Just, all those things a pure, nice person supposedly is - someone who doesn't bitch, who is kind, shy, reserved, virginal, and trustworthy, amongst other things.

Although that is already confirmed, kind of (with her special dietry needs) I think it is about breaking the bond of trust.

Yeah, if you disrepect your body, you are impure. But it's okay to allow your elders to inject you with substances of which you know nothing and to take pills and follow diets for reasons about which you know nothing. Rolling Eyes

The Order is very hypocritical.
