(Camera focuses slowly while Lee is playing with it.)
Gavin: Lee, hurry up man, will you?
Lee: Yes, boss! (smiles into the camera)
Gavin: Um, actually, I prefer "sir", if, uh... It's more formal.
Lee: Yes, sir! (continues to play with the camera, which is out of focus again)
Gavin: Is it-is it in focus?
Lee: Ye-yes, boss. Oh, I mean sir! (still playing with the camera; Gavin puts the frame back in focus)
Gavin: Hm. Um, okay. Right. I am now better and, uh, Lee the work experience trainee has come on board.
Lee: (giggles and waves at the camera) Hi.
(Gavin commandeers the camera and looks annoyed at Lee.)
Gavin: And, so, just put that on that. (motions to a surface in the distance)
(Scene cut to Lee breathing on the lens, trying to clean it with his tie. Another scene cut to Gavin cleaning off the lens again with a cloth.)
Gavin: Right. Lee wrote me this really nice email, asking me if he could come and work here, so... here he is. (motions to Lee in the background, who once again waves vigorously)
Gavin: (whispering to the camera) And the best thing is he's working for free. Ha ha!
Gavin: Uh, also, we're just getting ready to film a top secret video demo, uh, for our new software because it's ready for further investment. But, the best thing is, Tariq's back from his week-long van sandwich, and today is his birthday. Hey!
Lee: Hey! (sets off a party popper; Gavin looks annoyed)
Gavin: Go on, do it, do it (motions to the background; Lee turns away from the camera. Lee continues to look back at the camera occasionally) Ah, so tell everyone what we're going to do for your birthday.
Tariq: Gavin, can I just finish the script for the video, alright?
Gavin: Yeah, but we can finish it later. (closes Tariq's laptop)
Tariq: Gavin, not now, mate, okay? Yeah? Look, we need the extra investment and we aren't gonna get it without the video, are we?
Gavin: Aw, mate, calm down; it's your birthday.
Tariq: Just let me work.
(Kate appears in the doorway; Tariq and Gavin turn around to stare at her.)
Gavin: Um, uh, we'll - I'll tell you what - we'll go and make a head start at the pub. Uh, come on, Lee.
Lee: I've got all of this filing to do- (Gavin grabs Lee by the neck and pushes him toward the door while Kate steps in)- OW, oww, ow!
Gavin: Just -
Lee: What're you doing that for?
(While leaving, Gavin makes a binoculars motion and points toward the camera. Kate closes the door and removes her sunglasses.)
Kate: Happy birthday.
Tariq: I'm surprised you remembered.
Kate: Bebo reminder.
Tariq: Uh, what can I do for you?
Kate: I came to tell you not to worry about me any more.
Tariq: I'm not.
Kate: Well, that's not what it looked like last week.
Tariq: We thought you were in danger.
Kate: It isn't like that.
Tariq: So what was all that trait positive madness that we went through?
Kate: It isn't like that with Michelle.
Tariq: Oh, Michelle. So now you have Michelle, your old friends and dramas don't matter any more. You know what you need to do? You need to apologize to Charlie 'cause she's been worried sick about you!
Kate: I know.
Tariq: So what are you gonna do about it? I can't believe you! We thought you were true. You can't just make a group of friends and then just abandon them when you feel like it. Okay? We accepted you for face value, okay; not once did we pressure you to tell us what your real name was.
Kate: Genevieve. Look, I came to live here for a new start.
(Julia enters, blowing a party horn.)
Kate: I'll leave you guys to it. (leaves)
Julia: I take it that was her ladyship.
Tariq: Yeah.
Julia: Well, don't worry about it. Honey, we're not gonna let her in any more bad days or any more days.
Tariq: Where's my present?
Julia: Alright, cheeky!
Tariq: I feel better. (Julia hugs Tariq)
