Even after Bree says she completed the ceremony, she sill wears a bandage on her upper left arm.

Bree's injections have been the subject of a great deal of debate since the video House Arrest was posted, in which Bree wore a bandage. Bree commented on YouTube that she had to get an injection, but she did not say why. The bandage is viewable in subsequent videos when she wore sleeveless shirts, such as The Ceremony Is Tomorrow :). She eventually revealed that the injections were part of her preparation for the Ceremony (along with the diet, the pills, her studies of Enochian and her training with Lucy). At the time, Bree was unaware that her father was injecting her with a serum that would hopefully make her ineligible for the ceremony.

The Injections

Becoming Trait Negative

In I Listened To Daniel Bree said "my dad's been giving me these shots, and when I ask him what they are he says that they're good for me. I mean...I don't really think he even knows what they are." Bree said the shots didn't always leave her "feeling the best".

Later in I Completed The Ceremony, Bree was again wearing a bandage. It alerted fans and Daniel to the fact that she might still be receiving injections. This led to speculation that she had not completed any ceremony and continued to prepare for the real ceremony. In I Lied To Daniel, Bree confessed that the ceremony that Daniel filmed was fake.

From what Bree's friends and fans have been able to uncover, the most likely drug that the Order was using to prepare Bree was EPOGEN®. Known for increasing blood cells, its usage suggested preparation for blood-letting during the ceremony (later confirmed in the First Season Finale).

However it is now clear that her father did, in fact, know what he was giving Bree. With the help of Dr. Isaac Gilman, he developed a serum that would make Bree trait negative, thus making her useless to The Order. According to Daniel in Opening the Box, "Bree's dad had been giving her shots of something to help lower her levels . . . ."

While it is fact that Bree's father was giving her injections of the serum he and Dr. Gilman worked on, it is unclear if he ever injected her with EPOGEN®, as was being demanded from the Order. Perhaps he initially gave her EPOGEN® and later switched with the serum; perhaps he was treating her with both, explaining why Bree needed multiple doses of the serum.

Traits Positive & Negative

"Rybozymes"

From what Daniel, Jonas, and Sarah discovered in the box left by Bree's father, it is apparent that Bree has an inordinate amount of ribozymes. According to Daniel, "ribozymes are like molecular scissors that cut DNA . . . scientists seeking the origin of life have produced ribozymes that are actually capable of catalyzing their own synthesis. Translation: They somehow make life.

While fans wonder exactly why the Order would invest so much time trying to cultivate these girls' blood, the theory that the Elders use it to seek eternal life has surfaced (later joked about by Steve in the video, Free Will) from the KateModern series.

Nevertheless, fans can conclude that girls asked to perform the Ceremony have a high level of ribozymes (such as Bree or Kate) and girls that don't have a normal or low level of ribozymes makes them "Trait Negative."

EPOGEN®

Daniel shows what he found in the warehouse.

EPOGEN® is an injectable drug for the treatment of anemia. It contains epoetin alfa, a man-made version of erythropoietin, which is a protein produced naturally for the production of red blood cells. It is produced through recombinant DNA technology. EPOGEN® therapy may increase the risk of seizures, thrombotic events, and other serious events. The most commonly reported side effects in clinical trials were hypertension, headache, arthralgias, and nausea.<ref name=EPOGEN>Wikipedia article on EPOGEN®</ref>

EPOGEN® is meant for use in patients with chronic renal failure on dialysis.<ref name=EPOGEN/> Bree does not fit this profile, which indicates that she must be receiving the drug merely to increase her red blood cell count. The side effects of EPOGEN® also explain why Bree said that her injections make her feel worse than before.

Epogen

The iron pills would also help her in this regard. The risk of seizures brought on by use of EPOGEN® could explain why Bree's parents had information on Cerebyx on hand (and possibly some in stock).

Daniel found boxes of EPOGEN® in a warehouse that he visited in Breaking And Entering. He believed the warehouse belonged to a company where Bree's father used to work. Daniel found out about this company after he explored Bree's house and came across the box with a lemniscate symbol imprinted on it. When he found a room in the warehouse filled with these boxes, he opened one to find packets of EPOGEN®, which is used by The Order to make those illigible girls for the Ceremony, have a higher red blood cell count, thus leading to more blood for these Elders which concludes in "Eternal Life".

Later on, Daniel, Jonas, Sarah, and Taylor discover that a girl in Zavalla, Texas, Julia Anderson, was most likely be given EPOGEN® as well, though her file (stolen from the County Medical Hospital) identified her as "Trait Negative."

The Bree Solution

How to make the serum

Fans began to discover the truth behind Bree's injections when Daniel, Jonas, and Sarah discovered the contents left behind by Drew Avery in the video CAMP PLAY. Within the contents Bree's father left for Bree and Daniel, was a journal which had detailed notes about a serum that would make Bree trait negative.

Also in the box was the name of Dr. Isaac Gilman, whom, (thanks to Taylor's hacking skills) once worked at the Wyman Foundation. Fans also figured out that he visited the La Jolla Health and Tennis Club, where they discovered that he had helped Bree's father create the serum and as a result was most likely killed by The Order.

The TAAG would later contact his son, Spencer, who was a scientist at Neutrogena. Though hesistant at first, Spencer became motivated to help Bree's friends.

From his father's files, Spencer and Taylor found a water-logged paper that explained in detail the necessary ingredients to make the serum. With the help of those on the forum, Spencer and Taylor managed to decipher the damaged file.

Of the many ingrediants necessary to make the serum effective, the TAAG needed a sample of a "Trait Positive" girl's blood. No longer in contact with Bree (or any "Trait Positive" girl for that matter) this appeared to be an impossible task.

Yet with Spencer Gilman training the TAAG and Alex working from inside the Order, the TAAG was able to infiltrate the Wyman Foundation during Mission Possible. Successful, they were able to create the serum necessary to make Bree Trait Negative, and thus complete the job that both Drew Avery and Dr. Isaac Gilman were murdered for.

Unfortunately, the TAAG was unable to make Bree "Trait Negative." On the day they tried to cure Bree, they were attacked by the Order which resulted in them being too late to stop Bree from performing The Ceremony.

Though untested, it is beleived that the serum developed by the TAAG would effectively make any "Trait Positive" girl "Trait Negative."

Fan Theories

Vitamin B-12

For a long time the leading theory was that the injections contained vitamin B-12 to stimulate blood production. However, Bree has described that these shots often leave her feeling unwell, which should not be the case if they were merely vitamin B12 supplements. Nevertheless, it was logical to think that the shots may contain vitamin B-12, since Bree's participation in the ceremony involved blood being drawn from her.

Cerebyx® and Zosyn®

Daniel found these in Bree's parents room.

After Daniel posted the video Back At Bree's, fans began to analyze his clip for clues about Bree's Ceremony. Two pamphlets caught viewers' eyes. Fans discovered that they were informative pamphlets for the drugs Cerebyx® and Zosyn®. Cerebyx® is an anticonvulsive medication that has had some experimental testing as a pain medication.<ref>Wikipedia article on Cerebyx®</ref> Zosyn® is an antibiotic.<ref>Wikipedia article on Zosyn®</ref>

At the end of his video, Daniel said he had found something, and while many viewers thought he would reveal these pamphlets, he explained that what he found was a box with a lemniscate (see EPOGEN® above) imprinted on it. Once he showed that it was the box that held significance to him, the pamphlets became of less importance.

Brainwashing?

Viewers have also suspected that the injections contained mood-altering drugs. Videos that support this theory were when Daniel was presumedly drugged by the Order, when Bree, Daniel, and Jonas were kidnapped in Las Vegas, and later when Bree was rescued last spring and appeared brainwashed.
