Bump in the Night is the two-hundred seventieth webisode in the KateModern video series. It is also the one-hundred fifteenth video of season two.

Transcript

Text: KateModern contains products which have been included within the show on behalf of Skittles.

(Lee is holding his teddy bear in front of the camera.)

Lee: Hello, peeps. (Looks at his teddy.) We can't sleep, can we? No. (Shakes the bear's head.) And no, it's not because of the mice, because we think they might have died from eating too much happy food, don't we? (Nods the bear's head.) Yes!

You know, I'm really pleased about my new job, but I'm also really worried about Lauren, 'cause you know, she's not in a good way. She's been moping 'round for weeks now, and then, when I asked her to help me with the animation for the Skittles thing, she just wasn't interested. I mean, at all. It's weird, isn't it, 'cause she normally loves that sort of thing, doesn't she? (Nods the bear's head.) Yes, she does. Hmm.

(Lee looks at his poster of John Barnes.)

What do you think, John? Hmm.

(Cut to Lee walking out to the living room. Lauren is standing on the balcony, overlooking the plaza.)

Lee: Lauren?

(Lauren looks at Lee and the looks back outside. Lee walks over.)

Lee: You all right?

Lauren: Yeah. Fine.

Lee: What you doing?

Lauren: I could swear there's someone watching me. It's been going on for days now.

Lee: Is he still there? (Zooms in to look outside.)

Lauren: I can't see him, but... it's like I can feel him, do you know what I mean?

Lee: Then why don't you come in and sit down? I'll make us a nice brew.

(Lauren looks nervously outside and comes inside.)

Lauren: Yeah, alright. Thanks.

Lee: Maybe you could help me with my animation. Might help take your mind off things.

Lauren: Does it look like I can be asked about fucking Skittles right now?

Lee: Alright, I'm only saying.

(Lauren sits down on the couch as Charlie comes into the living room, yawning.)

Charlie: Hey, what are you guys still doing awake?

Lauren: Nothing. Just Lauren's a bit upset.

(Charlie sits next to Lauren and rubs her back.)

Charlie: Are you okay, babe? What's up?

Lauren: I dunno. I still don't know what happened to my sister, do I? And... I mean, even if it is pretty certain that... that she's... It's like, I can't... Can't have a funeral or anything, can we?

(Lauren picks up a black pill from the table.)

And I'm sick of having to take these pills all the time. It's like they control my life; like I'm a slave to them. I can't ever forget about being trait positive. And they're the reason I got so sick the other night at the hen night. It always happens now, when I drink. Just another part of my life that's controlled by the Order.

Charlie: (Sighs.) Look, I know it must really suck. I haven't exactly been able to control my alcohol intake lately.

Lee: Don't worry, love; we're always here, you know.

(Lauren looks at Lee and then looks unnerved at the window. She runs to the balcony.)

Lauren: He's there again!

Lee: Who is he? Where is he?

(Lee scans the street, looking for someone watching.)

Lauren: I could have sworn there was someone there.

Lee: I can't see anyone.

Charlie: Hey, it's alright. As long as you're with us, you'll be okay. I'm sure it was nothing.

Lauren: Yeah. I suppose you're right. (Comes back inside.)

Charlie: It's gonna be okay. (Hugs Lauren.) It's gonna be okay. We're here for you. I'm gonna head to bed; I've got a super early day tomorrow.

Lauren: See you in the morning.

Lee: Night, Charlie.

Charlie: Bye, guys. See you, Lee.

(Charlie walks back to her room as Lauren looks back outside.)

Lauren: I'm really not tired now, Lee.

Lee: Don't worry, Lauren, I'll stay up with you.

Lauren: Thanks.

Lee: But only if you do me a favor.

Lauren: What?

Lee: Well, can you help me with this Skittles animation? It's just I want it to be dead good.

Lauren: Lee, I've told you already: I'm not interested.

Lee: Alright, fine. I'll do it meself. You can just watch.

(Lee zooms in on nearby bags of Skittles. Cut to Lee emptying a bag onto the table.)

Lee: Oh! (Attempts to pull the Skittles into a pile.) Oh, no.

Lauren: Lee, what are you doing?

Lee: Now, pass me the camera. (Lee takes the camera from Lauren.) Right. And..."S". (Attempts to shape the pile of Skittles into the letter "S"..) "S". (Lauren shakes her head.) That's an "S".

Lauren: (Laughs.) Just come here, let me show you. (Pulls the pile over.) Let's do this.

(Lauren shapes the Skittles as Lee looks on.)

Lee: It's g- It's quite good. (Pans down, showing Lauren's "S".)

Notes

A staging goof.
  • When Lauren heads out to the balcony, Lee's reflection can be seen facing left in the right window panel. This is illogical, as if Lee were truly filming the video, he would be facing the window and the camera would be visible in front of him.
  • Lee's voice for his teddy bear is reminiscent of Rowan Atkinson's voice in Mr. Bean, in which he frequently talked to his teddy.
  • Lauren's suspicions are confirmed in . (video), which shows footage of Lauren from across the street before Lee enters the living room.
