Kate: (sitting on her bed talking to the camera) A name's a funny thing. Shakespeare said, ‘What's in a name, that which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet'. (Cuts to an image of a rose then Kate writing rose in her bathroom mirror with lipstick in the dark then back to Kate.) I don't agree. Names, words are powerful things. I mean they actually shape who you are. (Smiles.) Charlie is definitely a Charlie. I mean, can you imagine if she was called Mildred or Phyllis? I'm Kate. I feel different. People treat me differently and all I did was change my name. (Kate is now typing on her laptop while she talks) A name is a label but it doesn't completely define the object it describes. (Holds two rubber ducks in front of the camera), When I was a little girl, I had these awful dreams. (Night vision images of her in bed, also standing up with paint on her face.) I visited Doctor after Doctor. It got so bad that they had to put me on medication. (Images of tiles and an elevator doors opening.) Nothing worked. One summer I was sent to hospital. (Sounds of beeping, and the illusion she is being wheeled along in a hospital bed looking up at the roof.) It was the worst summer of my life. Pavor Nocturnus. (She writes it in lipstick on the mirror in which you can see her reflection.) Night terrors but worse. That's what they called it. Another word to define me. (Cut back to her sitting on her bed, daytime.) One day the dreams went away. Two weeks, three weeks, four weeks, gone. When I moved to London for art school I decided, fresh start, changed my name to Kate, leave the past behind me. That video I made over the weekend was based on a dream. I started having them a few weeks ago, I don't know what they mean. If anything. (Phone rings, Kate answers.) Hi. (Turns off camera.
