What is it?

Facility J is an Alternate Reality Game, or ARG. It made its first appearance on January 13, 2007 on the site of a YouTube user named TravelerJ19. The videos TravelerJ19 released through YouTube consisted of archival scientific footage from the post World War II era. Their subject matter is genetic engineering. The latest on the Facility J ARG can be found in the LG15 Fan Creations section of the Forum index under LG15 Fan Videos and Spin-offs. Or just click on the link in the "Active Forum Thread" below.

Characters

In order of appearance

WalterDW Dabrowski - 87-year-old former Facility J employee (YouTube/Revver/MySpace)

Locations

Facility J was a "State of the Art Government Installation" run by Operation Aphid in the post World War II years.

The Story

The story initially unfolded through a series of videos added to TravelerJ19's YouTube channel.

History Lessons (XX/XY)

Added: January 14, 2007
Description: XX/XY, it's all a game to them.
Attribution: Adhesion - Bank Holiday
Tags: XX, XY, OpAphid, FacilityJ, Code
Transcript: It's a question that has plaqued humankind's deepest philosophical thinkers ever since men were men and women were women. Why are men and women really so different? Women have an XX pairing of sex chromosones, and men, a XY pairing. The sex of our ancestors was then determined not by sex chromosones, but by the temperature of the embryo at a developmental stage before birth. The Y chromosone progressively mutated, so much so that much of it no longer exists. But does this mean that as evolution takes it course, the ever-shrinking Y will spell the death of the male?

History Lessons (Coded Rings)

Added: January 14, 2007
Description: Genetic engineering is nothing to play around with.
Attribution: Adhesion - Persymphony
Tags: DNA, OpAphid, FacilityJ, Plasmid Decoder, Ring
Transcript: We're gonna talk today about recombinant DNA. Uh . . .people of the general public hear the term recombinant DNA they sort of conjure up these ideas of mad scientists thats going around you know cloning bizarre organisms or creating dangerous forms of life. I told you about plasmids last night - small circular DNA molecules that are, that are used in purposes of cloning. They are derived from nature then they are, they've been heavily manipulated by scientists. Purify the enzyme and then perhaps inject it into the individual. The Bacteria that didn't get a plasmid died. The Bacteria that did get a plasmid survived. Um . . . The gene of interest is a "Toxic Gene".

The Project (Great Minds Gather)

Added: January 19, 2007
Description: They answered the call.
Attribution: Attribution: Mental Anguish - A Trip to the Park
Tags: Lovett, OpAphid, FacilityJ, Biology
Transcript: It was the fall of 51. The war was long over and we could already see the new battle that was emerging. Lovett himself gathered the greatest biological minds of our time in a project whos results were to rival even those of Oppenheimers group. Our work was to be secret and I was in charge of recording the results and sending the reels in bi-weekly. We had nothing but the best intentions. If only we had known then what we know now.

History Lessons (Knock 'Em Down)

Added: January 24, 2007
Description: Knockdowns aren't all fun and games.
Attribution: Text Adventure - Kill Meow
Tags: Gene, Knockdown, RNAi, OpAphid, FacilityJ, Bowling, DNA
Transcript: Gene knockdown uses RNA interference to silence the expression of the gene. Researchers at Stonybrook University have successfully knocked down genes in mice. and these traits are heritable in future generations. The creation of germ line transgenic mice with heritable rnai opens the door to the manipulation of gene activity in humans.

The Project (Welcome to Facility J)

Added: January 29, 2007
Description: The new facility led to surprising advances in many fields, although no individual researcher seemed to understand the larger goals of the project.
Attribution: The Go! Team - We Listen Everyday
Tags: Welcome, Prentice, FacilityJ, OpAphid, Biological, Sciences
Transcript: (Government Propaganda film) Welcome to Facility J A new state of the art government installation. ?????????????? John Rockafeller Prentice was in charge of research efforts at Facility J and believed that success could be acheived within the decade. ????????? for the american people . . .the masterminds . . . have absolute control. Progress is being made . . .

Catalyst (A Call to Action)

Added: February 02, 2007
Description: What hath God wrought.
Attribution: The Happy Planets - Countdown to Armageddon
Tags: Codon, Call, Action, FacilityJ, OpAphid
Transcript: You know at the beginning of the 1970's I made a statement. It was at a ralley in Hollywood where we had we marched down the middle of hollywood boulevard and then had a big ralley. I made a statement that the 1970's would be the most determinative decade in history. And certainly it was. From the 1970's the die was cast as far as the things predicted. But now at the beginning of the 1980's, I want to make another personal prediction. The 1980's will be the most catastrophic decade in the history of mankind. This generation will not pass away until all these things take place. What generation? In context it would have to be the generation that would see all the signs. That's this generation. We're seeing them all right before our eyes. Morse code.

Catalyst (Find Him)

Added: February 08, 2007
Description: If we value the pursuit of knowledge, we must be free to follow wherever that search may lead us.
Tags: Search, 5'3', Restriction, FacilityJ, OpAphid
Transcript: (TravelerJ19 speaks) I assume that you have successfully destroyed J2. This was an essential task. I have already taken care of J1 myself. I'm afraid I have no further information about the project. I do, however, know a man who does. Morse Code.

The Project (Walter)

Added: February 16, 2007
Description: I'm sure that he will let you know if he wants any further assistance.
Attribution: Jose Serralde - Tango del Ajenjo
Tags: Walter, WalterDW, FacilityJ, OpAphid
Transcript: (TravelerJ19 Speaks) It looks like you have succeeded in finding Walter. It may have been difficult, but that's the way he wanted it. He's always been a little paranoid. Something about leaving his last employer on bad terms. He's an old family friend. He's an old family friend, and we became closer when my family hit rough waters. For as long as I can remember, he's told me about his project, and how important it is. I never believed him, but I was willing to indulge the grandiose claims of an old man. That all changed when he showed me footage from the Facility. Now I know that his claims were, perhaps, not bold enough.

WalterDW's Videos

Our First Meeting

Added: January 31, 2007
Description: She was such a nice young lady.
Tags: Meeting, Pleasant, Reels
Transcript: No Audio. Video consists of a one second shot of the upper half of a young woman's face. She is freckled, red headed, dark eyes, and appears to be wearing no makeup. The background, seen briefly appears to be a blank, neutral wall.

A Proper Introduction

Added: February 20, 2007
Description: The time has come for a proper introduction.
Tags: WalterDW, Name, FacilityJ, TravelerJ, TravelerJ19, Notebooks, OpAphid
Transcript: The only audio is the sound of a film reel clicking. Frames flash by with numbers and odd markings. Then an image of a photo album is shown. The photo is the anterior view of an infant with bowed legs. The page is turned, and we see an x-ray of what appears to be a severly curved and deformed leg, apparently the infants. Cut to black. More odd markings flash by. (Screen captures from the video have shown the odd markings to look to be badly written stenciled letters (A's and S's) written sideways on a chalk board.)
