ATTENTION FELLOW ADMINS!

I just wanted to ask if anyone knew of a good way to avoid this annoyance. I really think we should find a way to advise people to not upload pictures and give them vague names, such as this one [[:Image:Cassie.JPG]], and others: [[:Image:Bree.jpg]], [[:Image:Breee.JPG]], [[:Image:Daniel.PNG]], [[:Image:Daniel.jpeg]], [[:Image:Daniel.jpg]], [[:Image:Daniel2x.jpg]], [[:Image:Dbeast.jpg]], [[:Image:Danielbeest.JPG]], [[:Image:Gemma.JPG]], [[:Image:Gemma.jpg]], [[:Image:Gemma2.jpg]]? Not to mention such gems as [[:Image:000 0292.jpg]], [[:Image:0097.jpg]], [[:Image:0099.jpg]], [[:Image:0706061651a.jpg]], [[:Image:10-12-06 2131.jpg]], [[:Image:109.jpg]], [[:Image:110.jpg]], [[:Image:12-01Reveresed.jpg]], [[:Image:12-01UnReversed.jpg]], [[:Image:12111494.jpg]], [[:Image:126.jpg]], [[:Image:126b.jpg]], [[:Image:202634.jpg]], [[:Image:223728-edited.jpg]]. I'd defy just about anyone to tell me what those are without clicking on them to see. Names of files should be descriptive, and I'm wondering if there is a way to let users know before they take a still of Jonas from video 0153 showing him vaulting over a fence with an AK-47 into a pit of rattlesnakes while OpAphid looks on laughing and calling it by the oh-so-descriptive name of "[[:Image:Jonas.gif]]". --Brucker 14:24, 8 February 2007 (CST)

I've noticed that too, but I don't know how you can control how files are named. I can only think to perhaps put a note on the upload page to ask that people include the name of the subject of the picture (Jonas, Owen, bald deacon, wilted rose, box with symbol, etc) and the title of the video. That would at least help. Then Jonas.gif might be called [[:Image:Jonas rattlesnakes Ambush The Order]]. Another thing we could do, though it wouldn't be fun, is to rename them ourselves and change their links in articles (phooey!). OwenIsCool 18:51, 9 February 2007 (CST)
JayHenry did something to alter the upload page, so hopefully it will be better from now on. --Brucker 19:06, 9 February 2007 (CST)
Maybe I should move this discussion to the balcony, but it occurs to me that I'm seeing a trend in picture naming that I actually like. If a picture is a screencap of an lg15 video, it might be nice to use the convention of starting the name with the four-digit video number. Followed by a terse description, it would be very good. For instance, the above-named [[:Image:0097.jpg]] is actually a close-up of Daniel from video 0097. If it were called 0097DanielCU.jpg, or something like that, it would be very descriptive, and also it would make it easier to find, etc. I'm certainly not going to suggest that we go back and rename all the old files, but if we could suggest a naming convention for new files, it might help simplify things (even if it's not the naming convention I suggest here.) -BRUCKER EyeBlueSmall.jpg (Home/Talk/Contribs) 12:39, 7 March 2007 (CST)
Since I noticed the comment on the upload page, I have started to include a description as well as just the plain video number although I sometimes forget. [[:Image:0097.jpg]] was one of mine from a while back (sorry). Image:0146-JonasOnTheRoadAgain.jpg and [[:Image:0146-BreeAtTheAuntsHouse.jpg]] are more recent. I'm not sure if the name of the picture really matters as much as the categories it belongs to but it would be nice to have a basic convention anyway. Let me know when you admins decide on one. Until then I'll carry on with "9999-Description.xxx" Psmith 13:51, 7 March 2007 (CST)
