Transcript

(Members of the JTV staff are standing at Julia's desk, talking to her. Gavin is sitting at his desk toward the windows.)

Co-worker: Since you'd asked, I was wondering. We don't seem to have been paid. For, like, the last two months.

Julia: Okay.

Co-worker: And he keeps saying we're gonna get paid, and I keep checking the bank, and I've not been paid.

Co-worker: It's just not good enough. At all.

Julia: It's gonna be two weeks, and-

Gavin: (Covering over the others' dialog.) Well, if you needed any more proof that Justin's off his rocker, here it is. Julia's been promoted - again. W- Yeah. She's programming director now, apparently. I-I swear he just makes up these positions. Although, yeah, that is quite rich coming from technical manager, but never mind. Anyway, it doesn't really look like she's enjoying her new position. See, everyone's paychecks have bounced for the second month in a row. And, of course, Justin's nowhere to be seen.

(Gavin turns the camera on himself.)

And, speaking of Justin... (Looks around suspiciously and moves toward the door.) Come here.

(Cut to Gavin walking down the hall near Justin's office. He walks over to the bar and puts a stack of mail on the counter. Picks up the top letter, showing them to the camera. The return address is for HM Revenue & Customs.)

See, I found these stuffed into a tape deck of one of the cameras. (Shows the second letter, which is addressed to Gavin. Shows the letter underneath it, which is, again, from the customs office.) And it- I think I'm starting to get an idea about how- how Justin managed to finance this whole operation in the first place.

Remember how he went mad at me the other day for asking about that package, right? Well, i-it got me to thinking, and, um, I think- I think it's part of a- a carousel fraud. Now, th- i-it's some sort of VAT scam, right? W-well, y-y-you keep re-importing the same goods and claiming the VAT back, but you don't actually pay VAT from the place where you sent it from. I d-don't know exactly how it works, but, I mean, it-it sounds like a pretty successful little scam. I-I-I saw on the news these guys did it, made like forty-million quid.

I-I don't think Justin's quite in the same league, though, since he can't afford to pay any of us, but... I don't know how much longer we're gong to be in business here, to be honest. I mean, I'm not fussed, though. I'm gonna get my money back one way or the other. I have a cunning plan.

Notes

  • The letters Gavin found are not properly addressed. First, there is no street number; only "JustIncredible.TV". Second, there is no "Regents Street" anywhere within the city of London.
  • It is seen on a board behind Julia 27 days left to launch
