Transcript

(Camera watches Spencer through a car window as he puts on a hat.)

Taylor: Oh no, he's bringing out the hat.

(Cuts to Taylor's face.)

Taylor: This should be good.

(Camera pans to Spencer outside of the car. He shows off his muscles.)

Taylor: Very threatening. Good job, Spencer.

Jonas: We ready to go?

(Spencer runs to the car.)

Jonas: You look ready to go.

Spencer: Alright.

(Musical montage showing off a rocky landscape.)

Taylor: What are we doing here, Mr. Scientist?

Spencer: Hm, well. I'm here, teaching Jonas how to rock climb for Mission Alpha!

Taylor: Care to expand on that?

Spencer: I would, but I'd have to kill you. (Giggles.)

Jonas: Uh, so um, I'm done stretching. (quietly) I'm finished.

Spencer: Jonas is in the beginning of his workout, and if he thinks this is going to be a cake-walk, he is surely mistaken. (To Jonas) Ready to kick it up a notch, Grasshopper?

Jonas: Grass... what?

Spencer: It's go time!

(Musical montage of Jonas and Spencer rock climbing.)

Text: The Knife Plunge © Spencer Gilman

(Musical montage of Spencer trying to wedge a knife into a crevice in the rocks, and Jonas trying to talk him out of it.)

Jonas: It's impossible! Look, are you out of your mind? (Takes the knives from Spencer.)

Spencer: It's a very effective exercise! It's the equivalent of a peg board!

Jonas: (Incredulously) Peg... first of all, first of all, there's nothing to stab into! This is rock! Okay, and second of all, even if this did work, I... there's no way I'd be able to pull myself up with these things, man!

Spencer: Look, what I'm asking you to do is a very simple exercise that works the brachialis, the posterior deltoid, I... I... it's not that complicated!

Jonas: Hey Spence, can I ask you something, buddy? Have you ever rock climbed before? Or you know like, um, exercised or anything?

Spencer: I actually can't because I have a condition called nociception, which can be exacerbated by a build-up of lactic acid. Especially when it's situated in my teres minor and lower trapezius.

Jonas: Okay.

(Cuts to Jonas and Spencer standing on another set of rocks. Spencer mimes a kangaroo pose to Jonas.)

Text: The Kangaroo Hop © Spencer Gilman

(Jonas hops across the rocks. Spencer shakes his head and remakes the kangaroo pose.)

Spencer: ...Kangaroo pose!

Jonas: I did the kangaroo pose!

Spencer: No! You did it for one jump! You have to do it the whole time!

(Spencer hops across the rocks in the kangaroo pose. Jonas looks at the camera incredulously, but high fives Spencer when he's done.)

Text: The Throw And © Spencer Gilman

(Spencer mimes showing Jonas how to get rope around a branch on a tree. Jonas climbs up the tree and puts the rope around the branch, grinning. Spencer looks upset. Jonas then stands on the ground and attempts to throw the rope up properly. He gets it up, and he and Spencer high-five again.)

Text: Qi Time © Spencer Gilman

Spencer: Alright, this one is about centering your qi. Now, we're gonna do it like this! Ready? (Spencer stands with his arms outstretched and one leg balanced on the other knee.)

Jonas: I got it... I got it. It's like The Karate Kid.

Spencer: No, NO! (Jonas mimes motions from The Karate Kid.) No, no, no, no, no! Not The Karate Kid! I need your right foot to be touching your left knee, like this. (Demonstrates.)

Jonas: I think I'm gonna skip out on this one, alright? (Walks away.)

Spencer: No! Come on, you've got to take this more seriously! Come on! You'll be thankin' me later!

Jonas: Alright, show me one more time?

(Spencer demonstrates. Jonas does the same.)

Spencer: Feel it! Feel the energy! (ethereal music)

(They both laugh. Spencer goes to high five Jonas, who walks away.)

Spencer: Aww!

(Jonas comes back and high-fives Spencer.)

Jonas: No, I'm kidding, man.

Spencer: (To camera) Mission Alpha is complete! Jonas is primed and ready! Good job, Grasshopper!

(Spencer hands Jonas a trophy. Taylor giggles.)

Taylor: Um, Jonas. How do you feel after receiving such a prestigous award?

Jonas: I wish my parents were alive to see this.

Taylor: Aww.

Jonas: You get this at a garage sale? Oh, anyways, turn that thing off. (He knocks the camera to the side.)

Notes

  • Spencer's hat is similar to the one worn by Bree in The Danielbeast.
  • Taylor's referral to Spencer as "Mr. Scientist" is possibly a reference to when Sarah called Daniel "Mr. Park Ranger."
  • This is the second time Jonas wields a potentially lethal weapon (the first was a gun in The Perfect Beach), but the atmosphere in this case is far more amicable.
  • The Karate Kid is a martial-arts movie about an "underdog."
  • When Spencer says "Kick it up a notch!" he is mimicking the catchphrase of popular TV chef, Emeril Lagasse.
  • This video contains another reference to Jonas's parents, possibly setting them up for a major plot line.
  • At the time of posting, this video was the second longest lg15 video to date, surpassed only by Uncle Dan.
