Transcript

(A shot of Jonas sitting outside in front of a brick wall.)

Jonas: I made a big mistake.

(Skips to a clip of Jonas chasing Virgil, the Watcher.)

Jonas: Wait! Hey! Hey, wait! What are you talking about? Hey!

(Virgil finally stops.)

Jonas: What are you talking about? Wh-

Virgil: Here.

(Virgil hands Jonas a loaded gun. Skips to Jonas following Virgil into one of the abandoned buildings.)

Jonas: Why can't I trust Claire? How do you know that? If you don't start explaining, I'm gonna have to-

Virgil: Gonna have to what?

Jonas: Listen, I'm sorry. Please just tell me what's going on.

Virgil: (shining a flashlight towards the camera) Jonas, you screwed up. That's what's going on.

Jonas: Could you lower that?

(Virgil lowers the beam and begins searching the room.)

Virgil: You let your ego get in the way. You thought you found the almighty answer to bringing down the Order? Jonas, you were just a pawn.

Jonas: What? Listen, will you just talk to me?

(Jonas makes a grab for Virgil's shoulder, which is promptly deflected by twisting Jonas's arm by the wrist.)

Jonas: Ahhh! Ahh! Okay, okay.

Virgil: Jonas, you're weak.

(Virgil releases Jonas and begins to walk away.)

Virgil: They took your grief and used it against you.

Jonas: What do you- Who? Who? LaRezisto? They're not.. They're not real, is that what you're trying to tell me? They're--

Virgil: It's a sham. Powers?

Jonas: So.. So wait a minute, Emma doesn't have powers. Emma.. You.. How do you know this? Well, what about Emma? Do you know where we can find her? Claire? Do you know where they went?

Virgil: I'm trying to find them.

(Jonas pursues Virgil as he continues to search the buildings.)

Jonas: (voice-over) I am so sorry.

(The dialog begins to switch back and forth between Virgil and Jonas. Virgil is located in a dark room, while Jonas is outside in front of the brick wall.)

Jonas: Emma. I'm so sorry..

Virgil: Look, there's conflict within the Order. There are those who choose to honor the rules and principles which it is founded upon and those who do not.

Jonas: I just don't know what I'm doing anymore. What am I doing?

Virgil: The Order treats special girls like Bree and Emma with honor, with dignity.

Jonas: (to Virgil) Honor and dignity!? Not, that's not what I would-

Virgil: Listen!

Jonas: I led you right into that. I.. And.. Anybody could see that that was bogus. Super power?

Virgil: These Elders' lives are dependent upon these girls. And just like everyone else, they have to follow the rules, wait their turn. But sometimes, the wait is too long.

Jonas: I just wanted to believe it so bad.. And I'm sorry.

Virgil: There seems to be an Elder who values his life over all the other Elders'.

Jonas: The thing is I don't know what to do. I am fresh out of plans.

Virgil: He's tried this before. He tried to kidnap Bree and now, he's kidnapped Emma. Remember Vegas?

Jonas: (to Virgil) That wasn't the Order?

Virgil: No..

Jonas: I don't know what to do. I guess find this Elder, this rogue Elder. I.. Well, I guess if I could find him, I could find Emma. The thing is I can't.. This is really hard for me to do. I'm just so guilty. I'm so guilty and I can't let it go.

Virgil: Look, there's nothing here that's gonna help me find Emma. I need to go.

Jonas: (to Virgil) What? Hey, let me come with you-

Virgil: No, Jonas, you've done enough damage. Go home.

(The camera follows Virgil's departure and the scene finally settles completely on Jonas outside.)

Jonas: I can't forgive myself for what I've done. I don't know how to.. I don't know how to make it, uhh, better. I don't know how to make it any better. The Watcher said go home. He said go home, so maybe that means I have to go back to my old house and just.. Maybe that box that I got from the cabin, that.. Th-The Resistance box. Maybe there's an answer in there. I'm gonna find you, Emma. I'm gonna find you. I promise.

Notes

  • While Jonas follows Virgil as he searches through the buildings, several things come into focus. The first is a picture of what appears to be a church with some sort of demonic creature hovering over it. The second is the ceiling covered in sheet music for "Wistaria." The final is a wall that reads, "Here is why Behaviorism is most often assaulted in debate."
  • In Proceed with Caution (July 23, 2007), Alex claimed that Watchers are members of the Hymn of One "and they don't know anything about the Order, its intentions, its makeup; they don't even know the Order exists." Apparently, that is not true of every Watcher, assuming that Virgil is a Watcher. This is the first recorded instance of a Watcher carrying on a conversation with one of the main characters.
  • By claiming that the kidnapping of Bree, Daniel, and Jonas in Las Vegas (documented in Subjects Apprehended (Mar. 26, 2007)) was not committed by The Order, but by a rogue Elder's Shadow, the Watcher seems to confirm that the Vegas kidnapping violates principles of free will supposedly honored by The Order. Interestingly, the three "private" videos documenting the Vegas kidnapping purported to by posted by "The Order," suggesting that the rogue Elder believes his actions are legitimate.
