New Town, New Story is the first video in the LG15: Outbreak video series.

Transcript

(A dark screen with specks of floating light are shown.)

Crystal: (voice-over) Imagine spending every waking moment of your life doing something you hated. Living a way you despised. Trapped in an endless montage of going from one place to another. Hiding from ghosts of bad memories and broken promises. Running and running, until there is no place else to go. And all you're left with is a room full of Shadows and reminders of the mistakes you've made. And then... Imagine you get the chance to start over.

(The screen blurs to a gray smudge and the words "LG15: OUTBREAK" appear on screen. Fade to black. Cut to Crystal in her new apartment.)

Crystal: What's up? If you haven't figured it out already by talking to me online, my name is Crystal. I enjoy wasting my time on the internet.

(Cut to black and white footage of Crystal with white letters swirling around next to her head, spelling "Hi, Internet! My Name Is Crystal! :)" Cut back to Crystal.)

Crystal: Introductions. Introductions. Introductions. I'm an art student that recently dropped out of Full Sail U. I learned how to draw, I learned how to animate, and I also learned how to use pepper spray. Long story. But, just because I learned how to do these things, doesn't necessarily mean that I'm good at them. So, no promises.

(Cut to a musical montage of Crystal sitting at a table sketching. She gets up and holds up her drawing of what appears to be a bird. Cut to Crystal standing by the fridge.)

Crystal: I decided to do these video blogs party because it takes me a while to animate, but moreso because of the latest (Air quotes) "Stunt" that I pulled. You see, last week I packed up all my things out of Full Sail. Cleaned house. Ordered a plane ticket and flew to a different state. I checked into a hotel and I called around to find a decent apartment. Seven days later, here I am. New life. Honestly, I have no idea what I'm doing. But what I do know, is that everything's about to change.

(There's a knock at the door and Crystal picks up the camera and answers it.)

Will: (Holding a box) Hi.

Crystal: Hi, can I help you?

Will: Yeah. I was just- I was actually helping you. I- I'm sorry, what's the camera for?

Crystal: Oh! Sorry, bad habit. (Puts the camera down) I was just making some home movies for my new place.

Will: Got it. Well, I was actually just passing by because I saw that you left this up in the lobby when you were moving your stuff in. I wasn't sure if it was important or not.

Crystal: Oh. Wow. Thanks, I didn't even notice. (Takes the box from Will.)

Will: Not a problem. My name's Will by the way. I live right down the hall and down one floor.

Crystal: Oh, well I'm Crystal.

Will: Crystal. Nice meeting you. Enjoy the new place.

Crystal: Nice to meet you too. Bye.

(Will starts to say something but Crystal shuts the door. Cut to Crystal putting the box on the kitchen counter. A low battery symbol appears in the lower right hand corner of the screen. Crystal takes a book out of the box and flips through it.)

Crystal: That was a close one.

(Crystal puts the book back in the box then reaches to turn off the camera.)

Notes

• Footage from "The Human Ransom" is edited into the introduction of the video.

• • Close inspection of the book Crystal holds at the end of the video has shown that the symbol on the front resembles the letters "DBC". What significance this has, if any, remains to be revealed.
  • Crystal says that she had just recently dropped out of Full Sail University. However, her Facebook profile shows her year of graduation to be 2008, implying that she should have graduated already.
