Transcript

Sarah: Captain's Log. Star date blah blah blah blah. Seems as though we've been trapped in a vortex of pure nothingness. I believe the natives of this strange planet call it the Midwest. There is not much here except for, um, roads and abandoned tundras and more roads and more roads and the occaisional roadside diner, which is where we are now. Yeah I don't know. I don't think it's the Midwest. I think what's bugging me so much is that I've been trapped in a car for 3 days straight. You know, Jonas doesn't say more than 2 words when he is behind the wheel and Reed will not stop bitching about the fact we need some awesome mix CD to raise the roof. I swear sometimes I think his slang skills peaked in 7th grade. Umm...He's kind of funny.

Reed: Hey! Hey! I've got Shirley Temples! Here--oh no, wait, I drank out of that one. Here.

(Reed hands Sarah a Shirley Temple. Cut to the two of them sitting down.)

Reed: Jonas said no more videos.

Sarah: What? Do you always do what you are told?

Reed: Depends on who's telling.

Sarah: What if I'm telling you?

(Reed and Sarah smile at each other. Reed spills his drink.)

Reed: Ooh.

(Sarah laughs hysterically.)

Reed: I just wet myself.

Sarah: I can see that. Let me help you.

Reed: So, um, thanks.

Sarah: Yeah.

Reed: So what were you talking about?

Sarah: Um...Being trapped in a vortex of pure nothingness.

Reed: What? A vortex of what?

Sarah: The Midwest.

Reed: Woah, baby! The midwest is not a vortex of any kind.

Sarah: What, are you calling me your baby?

Reed: The Midwest rules! We've got plenty of cool stuff.

Sarah: Like?

Reed: Like the Cubs. And, like, snow. And...pizza and culture.

Sarah: And unpaved roads.

Reed: Roads. Where we're going we don't need any roads.

Sarah: Okay, Dr. Brown.

Reed: The midwest is my home. Don't knock it.

Sarah: Okay I won't knock it. Don't spill drinks on me.

Jonas: Hey guys! Let's move. You guys aren't still fighting are you?

Reed: What?

Jonas: Okay let's go find the car and, uh cut the bitching.

(Reed takes his disposable camera out, and snaps a picture of Sarah and the camera.)

Notes

  • The hand gesture Sarah makes at the beginning and the phrase "Captain's Log. Star date-" are references to Star Trek
  • The Shirley Temple is a non-alcoholic beverage named for the actress. It usually includes clear soda, grenadine, and a cherry.
  • Reed quotes the end of the movie "Back to the Future" saying: "Roads? Where we're going, we don't need any roads."
