Transcript

(Maggie sits at her computer staring at the monitor. She breathes in and turns to the camera.)

Maggie: Hi. Um... Okay, so this has to be brief. I'm actually... I fear that our enemies are tracking our connection. (Smiles and sighs) I prepared a brief statement on behalf of the Hymn of None.

(Maggie takes a deep breath and begins to read from a pile of papers.)

My name is Margaret Ann Schaffer. On May 14th, 2003 I was abducted fom my home by a man affiliated with Lifesblood Labs. For the next several years they tortured me, stole my blood, and treated me like a sub-human. I was freed with the help of a wonderful, kind man named Beaumont. His fate is unknown, but I... I mean, I-I suspect that... Sorry, this... no. This is not about assumptions or guesses, this is about truth. It's facts. (Takes a deep breath) Okay.

There is a group known as The Order. They prey on girls with a special chemical trait in their blood. Girls like me. They take their blood and use the special rybozymes contained within, via transfusion, to extend their own lives. They use a shell organization, The Hymn of One, to find these girls, to shelter them from the outside world, and, when the time is right, The Order kidnaps them and... murders them.

Lifesblood Labs was a part of The Order. They were a part of the machine. Until they saw opportunity. They claim it was for the betterment of mankind, but... The truth, it seems that they just saw dollar signs.

So we, The Hymn of None, have come to you for help. And we must stop them. And the key to our plans are-are those that you've already come to know. Jonas and Sarah... they've lost many, and they've risked much... And now, with Reed at their side, they have taken on a great challenge. You, the community, you've been such... an invaluable help to us, and without your help we would still be a shell of what we've become. With your help we have discovered the cure. And while those who possess it are... still suspect, its... existence seems to no longer be in question. The cure is the most important thing. And we must discover its secrets. While we can offer no guarantee of its efficacy or authenticity, it is the biggest chance we have to make a difference. We know this for a fact, and we need you to believe us.

And so, this is why I... I've exposed myself to you. We, The Hymn of None, we realize that you don't trust us. So perhaps by seeing my face as part of the whole, perhaps this will convince you of our true allegiance. Standing before you like this, speaking truthfully, openly, and forcefully, in a way that nobody seems willing to do, is a great, personal risk for me. But I hope that by hearing these words, that you will realize the truth. The truth about Lifesblood Labs. The truth about The Order. And the truth about us, The Hymn of None.

(Maggie sighs, shuffles her papers and turns back to her computer screen.)

It seems they haven't deciphered our location... I can take a few questions, um, and I'll do my best to answer them.

(Maggie sighs and reads from her screen.)

Alyssa, the cure is something that we have just learned of. We don't really know what it is.

AliceSoftBall... I-I can't... I can't tell you where I am.

(Maggie shifts awkwardly in her seat and puts her papers down before reading again from the screen.)

Um, sistaSouthside... The leader of the Hymn of None... it's all of us. We are legion.

(Maggie looks over her shoulder before continuing.)

Kosmo555... There is no specific number. We grow and we change.

Um, this is to Agent Casper... Um, the Hymn of None has existed longer than... (Shrugs) than any of us could know.

Arynthia, yes. Um, we made the Hymn of None videos. We... we thought by... by telling you guys a story, you can see the consequences that face all of us.

Grade37... (Smiles) I-I mean, I hope to one day get to meet Jonas. He's amazing.

GemKnight, I-I do trust Reed. He's proven himself.

(A bang is heard off camera and Maggie jumps. Another bang and she begins to look worried. The sounds of someone quickly coming toward the camera are heard and Maggie jumps up to turn off the camera.)

Notes

  • Although Maggie is holding four or more papers, she only reads from two of them.
