Transcript

(Charlie films a lamppost in the park.)

Charlie: Ah. London in the summer; this is the life. (Turns the camera on herself.) Down at the park with your boyfriend, a nice picnic, great wine, maybe some Frisbee later... (Sighs.) It doesn't get much better than this. Oh! Oh, sorry; that's right: I'm here with Steve.

(Charlie rolls her eyes. Cut to Steve holding up a Celestial Network sign in front of a group of onlookers as Jeremy films.)

Steve: Connect with me! Connect with me! We are at one with love and the universe. (Puts down the sign.) Where are you girls from?

Group: Michigan.

Steve: Michigan; then you'll understand. The thing about The Celestial Network is we are striving to affect a new paradigm of spiritual interaction. For too long we have let out-dated notions of what it means to love rule our lives! We need to become one with The Celestial Network and find our place in the cosmic nexus. Become one with love, each other, and the universe. And we need to realize these things, and when we do, we will strive for to be- to be better humans and to be better people because we will understand love and reality and what it means to be on this earth. (Raises the Celestial Network sign.) So join The Celestial Network and connect with me. Thank you very much.

(Steve lowers the sign as the onlookers clap.)

Steve: Thank you.

(Steve steps down from a stool and Charlie approaches him.)

Charlie: Hey. How'd it go?

Steve: Uh... Yeah, good. Didn't, um, pick up any new members, though.

Charlie: Oh, I'm sorry.

Steve: Not yet.

Charlie: Sorry to hear that. Do you want to come and sit with me somewhere?

Steve: Yeah, that'd be nice.

Charlie: Okay.

(Charlie and Steve walk, with Jeremy filming them. Cut to the bank of a lake. Charlie is sitting next to Steve on a bench while Jeremy continues to film.)

Charlie: Are you okay? You-you seem kind of- I don't know... Do you mind? (Zooms in on Jeremy.) Does he have to be doing that?

Steve: Yeah. Do you know what, Jeremy? I'm not going to be doing any more Network stuff this afternoon, so you can stop filming now.

Jeremy: But what am... What am I supposed to do now?

Steve: You can do whatever you like. Just-just turn the camera off. Go away.

(Jeremy awkwardly turns off the camera and turns away.)

Steve: Oh, Jeremy? If you don't mind?

(Steve hands the Celestial Network sign and stool to Jeremy. Jeremy looks angrily at the camera and turns to leave.)

Steve: That's better.

(Charlie sits next to Steve. She films Jeremy leaving. Cut to Charlie and Steve walking along the bank of the lake.)

Charlie: Thanks for this. I just- really needed to talk to you without Jeremy around.

Steve: That's alright. What's up?

Charlie: Ugh. It's just... It's Jules. You saw the video, right?

Steve: Yeah.

Charlie: It just seems so dodgy, you know? Getting hit in the head with a coconut? I just don't buy it.

Steve: It does seem weird, and you know how I feel about Rupert... I just don't see him being a wife-beater. Though you can't be sure of anything with him, can you?

(Cut to Steve and Charlie in a boat on the lake as Steve rows. Charlie films ducks on the lake. Cut to Steve.)

Charlie: (Sighs.) So, look: there's some other stuff I wanted to talk to you about, as well.

Steve: Okay.

Charlie: Now, don't take this the wrong way, but... all this stuff with The Celestial Network... I mean, do you really see it going anywhere? Well, I don't want to piss on your bonfire or anything, but wh- what do you want to come from all of this?

Steve: Well... It's like... I really believe in this. I- I just want to do something positive with my life. I just really believe in it.

Charlie: I know you do, but what are you doing for money at the moment?

Steve: Good question.

Charlie: I mean, have you ever thought about what you want to do with your career?

Steve: Uh, I haven't- haven't been thinking that far ahead.

Charlie: And I don't want you to take this the wrong way, but I'm- You know, it's just- I really care about you, Steve.

Steve: I care about you, too.

Charlie: And I just don't know how we can make this work, how we can be together, if you're wrapped up in this whole Celestial Network thingy. You know, even if I did overreact the other night...

(Cut to a panning shot of trees. Cut to Charlie and Steve lying on the grass under a tree.)

Steve: Think you'll go back to Australia?

Charlie: I don't think so. I was bit of a third-wheel when I went back at Christmas. Kim sees Rose as her mum now, and it just confuses her having me around. It's so hard to... be around her and want to be her mum.

Steve: It'll get easier. And she's lucky, you know? Her parents are gonna look after her, even if they're not really her's.

(A tear slides down Charlie's cheek and Steve gives her a hug. Cut to Steve walking with his arm around Charlie.)

Charlie: You know, I didn't have high expectations to have a good time at the start of today... But I really enjoyed myself. Thanks.

Steve: Yeah. Me, too.

(Charlie kisses Steve and they continue walking.)

Notes

  • Steve wrote a blog after this video entitled: "Is The Network A Waste Of Time?"
Steve said:

Hey everyone, I've been starting to question a few things lately. Namely....what am I doing with the Celestial Network? I truly believe in the ideas that gave birth to this community and I really feel like I've helped to bring people together. Talking to Charlie the other day made me think, though. Is this just something I'm doing to avoid facing up to the real world? Between the Hymn of One, chasing after the Order and now the Network, its been a long time since I really had to think about the normal things that people have to get on with. It's so important but am I just burying my head in the sand? Its not going to help me get a job or anything is it? I can't just carry on living in this fantasy world, can I? What do you think? I need to know if the Network really matters to people.
