Special Relationship? is the two-hundred thirty-ninth webisode in the KateModern video series. It is also the eighty-fourth video of season two.

Transcript

(A clapperboard is seen. Lauren slaps it shut and take it out of the frame, revealing a Barbie doll in front of a sunny landscape.)

Voiceover: Until I few weeks ago, I had no idea about any of this "Order", "trait positive", "Hymn of One" stuff.

(The scene fades yellow into a close-up of the Barbie waving at the camera. The scene fades again to show army soldiers in front of the Barbie.)

Voiceover: And then, all of a sudden I was in the middle of a war.

(And explosion cuts to the Barbie surrounded by figurines.)

Voiceover: And no one really knew who was on who's side.

(Close ups of the many figurines are shown. One representing Charlie looks around. Another holds a sign reading "Watcher", which turns into a gun.)

Voiceover: But after a while, it became pretty obvious.

(A figurine of Venom attacks the Watcher. A figurine wearing a clay sweater with a picture of Terrence's head is shown holding a sign reading "Terry". Screams are heard as blood splashes across the screen. Lauren holds a signs in front of the figurine reading "formally known as..." and "Terrence". The Barbie is seen thrashing around under a red cloth and then a close-up of her face is shown.)

Voiceover: Luckily, I had a bit of help.

(Cut to a figurine of the Green Lantern, holding a sign reading "Gav". The Charlie figurine appears in front of the camera. Cut to the Terrence figurine..)

Voiceover: And eventually the battle was won.

(The figurine is hit in the face with a spider web and falls over. The Barbie punches the Terrence figurine with clay boxing gloves.)

Voiceover: So now it's time to go on the offensive. (The Barbie's face covers the camera. Cut to a union soldier holding a waving American flag.) With our reinforcements.

(Cut to Lauren sitting at the coffee table with the Barbie in front of her.)

Lauren: Right. Well if that weren't clear enough, what I'm trying to say is now we've teamed up with the Americans, I'm really sure we can destroy the Order. Steve's out now doing some more research into that Lord Carruthers guy, so hopefully he'll be able to track him down.

And, Charlie, if you're watching this, please don't overreact. I know what I'm doing. (Looks at the Barbie doll and turns off the camera.)

Notes

  • Lee revealed shortly after the video was released that the toys Lauren uses are his. It is presumed that the Barbie is his, as well.
  • The title, Special Relationship, refers to a line from a Winston Churchill speech that describes the strong political, cultural, and diplomatic relationship between the United States and Great Britain, which has influenced British foreign policy since World War II.
