Transcript

{Daniel and Jonas are sitting in the living room of the rented house shifting through papers and notes on the coffee table. Gina is on the sofa next to Jonas.)

Daniel: Nope. No...

Jonas: We've been through all this, man. There's- There's nothing new here. Thank you.

(Jennie, off camera, hands Jonas a coffee cup.)

Jennie: Guys, it's worth it if there's something that might lead us to Bree's mom.

(Jonas sets down the coffee cup and picks up Bree's "#1 Dad!" collage.)

Daniel: It just feels useless.

Jonas: This is hard, Jennie, you know? I mean, you weren't there.

Daniel: Did you see this? (Daniel pulls out a post-it from the back of a composition book.)

Jonas: What?

Daniel: It's this note stuck in the back of the book. (Reads the note.) "Speak with E"...something. "Re: WP and", uh, "GA"...

Jonas: (Grabbing note from Daniel.) What? Let me see. "Speak with EA." It's an A, see? I mean, uh, I think it's a pair of initials. And "Re: WP" and I- I think that says "Bio"? "What is the status of the financing?"

Jennie: "Funding."

Jonas: "Funding."

Daniel: Hey, "E.A." could be, um, Elizabeth Avery. That's Bree's mom.

Jonas: Yeah, maybe. But what's "W.P." and "Bio"?

Jennie: Well, "W.P." could be William Porter.

Daniel: Wait. William Porter? Wasn't... wasn't he the president of Bio-Therapy?

Jennie: Yeah.

(Daniel gets up and walks toward the hall.)

Jonas: Okay, fine. Let's just say that "E.A." is Bree's mom, what would she know about Porter and Bio-Therapy?

Daniel: I don't know, but you know what? There was something kinda similar in Ted McKinley's files. Hold on.

(Daniel goes into his bedroom. Cut to Gina is looking at Bree's collage.)

Gina: It's weird.

Jonas: What?

Gina: She was my sister.

Jonas: Yeah. You would've really liked her. (Places his hand on Gina's knee and pats it. He then looks guiltily at the camera.) What?

(Daniel returns with a stack of files.)

Daniel: Hey, man. McKinley's files. The one with the stock. Yeah, right here. (Pulls out a folder labeled "stocks" and opens it to show a certificate for 500 shares of Verdus Pharmaceuticals.)

Jonas: What have we got?

Daniel: (Hands a paper to Jonas.) Here's a request to sell his Verdus stock options, and look who approved it. Right there at the bottom.

Jonas: "Chairman of the Board." It's initialed "E.A."

Daniel: Yeah.

Jonas: Shit!

Daniel: Yeah, if she was Chairman of Verdus, she would have known about Bio Therapy and William Porter.

Jonas: Yeah, and Bio-Therapy is a subsidiary of Verdus, which also funded the Hart Study.

Jennie: (Turns the camera on herself.) And the Lullaby Project. Everything always leads back to Verdus.

(A knock is heard at the front door. Jennie opens the door to reveal Carl.)

Jennie: (Sighs.) Hey, Carl.

Carl: Oh, hi.

(Carl walks in.)

Jennie: Oh, just... come on in.

(Jennie rolls her eyes as she closes the door.)

Carl: Hey, guys.

Daniel: Hey, what's up, dick?

Carl: Hey look, I'm just here to pick up Sarah. (Sits down next to Daniel.) We're gonna grab some lunch.

Daniel: I can't believe she accepted your insane deal. It's disturbing.

Carl: Wait, look. I'm sorry you guys feel that way, I was just trying to have a little fun. But, hey... How can I help?

Jennie: Okay, well, what can you tell us about Verdus?

Carl: Not much. Um... I worked there before I was assigned to the Lullaby Project. Uh, but I'm done with all that stuff now.

Daniel: So...

Jonas: Yeah. Do you remember seeing Elizabeth Avery around Verdus?

Carl: I don't know. Not that I can recall.

Jonas: Well, what I'm saying is, was she ever Chairman of the Board?

Carl: Well, I don't know. I... (Looks through the papers on the table.) Hey, where did you get the Verdus stock? (Picks up Verdus stock) You know they issued these to all their employees.

Daniel: Oh.

Carl: I still have some. They always send me these notifications about, uh, proxy voting.

Daniel: So?

Carl: (Laughs.) So, the Board meets the third Friday of every month.

Daniel: Okay.

Jennie: You guys. That's this Friday.

Notes

  • When Carl talks about proxy notices, it is implied that Carl is a current shareholder of Verdus.
  • From what is visible in the hi resolution version of the video, the stock options letter has been determined to contain the following:
[Verdus Logo]

  • It is unusual that an official letter would not note the full name of the Chairman of the Board.
