Style?

Now that we're using this as the official list instead of the front page, does anyone think this needs a bit of "sprucing up"? --Brucker 18:34, 4 January 2007 (CST)

Yeah, definitely need to do something. We need to spruce up a handful of pages that the new Main Page links to. If nothing else we need a table of contents. This could also be another place to use template:init. It always bugged me that you couldn't tell from the list whose blogs were whose.--JayHenry 19:01, 4 January 2007 (CST)
That would be a good idea. Maybe also a very short decription and/or the date? --Brucker 10:58, 5 January 2007 (CST)

This page still looks like shit. It should look alot more like the right column on the main page, with episode pics instead of the ugly montage we have now. Misty 13:53, 18 March 2007 (CDT)

While you are certainly entitled to your opinion, you could have shared it in a much more civil way. That's the least we expect of anybody contributing to LGPedia. I don't think what we have on the main page is appropriate for a list of 157 videos (and growing). If you have any suggestions on how we can implement your ideas, please describe them or provide examples. We're all doing this for fun and out of our free time, so instead of just deriding others' work and demanding a change, you should be providing an alternative. OwenIsCool 14:32, 18 March 2007 (CDT)
I wasn't making a demand, nowhere did I say anyone HAD to do what wanted, I just expressed what I thought. I'm sorry if the way I said it sounded uncivil, that wasn't my intention , I just tend to talk in very blunt terms most the time, maybe I'll learn how to be more diplomatic when I get older. Misty 22:11, 18 March 2007 (CDT)
I might have an idea...it just requires you diving into MediaWiki:Monobook.css again ;) Check out Template:VidExpand; as saved, it did not work for me here, but the exact same code, copied from my user-css and from the page's source, works fine for me locally. So I'm pretty sure LGPedia is just set to ignore user-css (that's the default for MediaWikis) :D
Would you mind adding
.vidExpandDiv {
	display: none;
}
.vidExpandDiv:target {
	display: block;
}
to the css? It's just custom classes, if it doesn't work, no harm is done...it'd just make the template useless (but like I said, it *should* work - it does locally.). But if it does work, Template:VidExpand should instantly work, enabling us to add all the vid information to List of Lonelygirl15 videos without making it kilometers long...
Pretty please? :D

Renegade to the rescue, huh? Template:VidExpand looks very nice. I added the code, did F5+Refresh and voila. I'm on Firefox so I got the extra bells and whistles. I like this solution, but before implementing it we should give others a chance to weigh in. Is there some way we could get that working on IE browsers as well? I know you're a "progressive computer user" (from your forum post)... but I think a lot of our users (and lurkers) are still on IE and the list might look kinda long to them (you did mean that IE users always see the expanded version, right?).
Thanks for taking the time to develop it! It's way nicer than what I expected, but a page like this deserves it. After all, it's linked to from the Main Page and the sidebar. Great job!
OwenIsCool 00:44, 19 March 2007 (CDT)
Renegade OMFG!!!! that is totally AWSOME!!!! I weigh in as a YES!!!! Misty 00:59, 19 March 2007 (CDT)
Thanks both of you :) Glad you like it.
Owen, no, that's the point ;) - all IE users see is an extra (useless) triangle - apart from that, it looks exactly as before. The worst thing that could happen is that they jump to that list item if they click the icon - nothing more.
Reason is, display: none is default - since IE ignores :target's display: block, all blocks just stay set to display: none, and never appear. If you still have IE installed, go ahead and try it...I tested it on both FF 1.5 and IE6, and worked as expected both times.

I looked at it with IE7, and it's as you say. There's just the link and when you click the little square (it turns into a square for me in IE) nothing happens. My problem with changing to this format is that IE users see a really plain list that's impossible to "spruce up". For instance, if I wanted to put in a photo montage to make it not-so-plain, it would probably clash with the template for Firefox users. I'm with you, I totally ♥ my Firefox, but you have to realize that <15% of the people reading LGPedia will be using Firefox (just an approx figure from what I know about FF and IE market shares). I really like your template, but I'd much prefer something that all (or at least most) of our readers can enjoy. After all, we make the wiki for them. Can I appeal to the magnanimous side of Renegade? Pretty please *big eyes* you are very resourceful, I know you can come up with something. =) OwenIsCool 11:17, 19 March 2007 (CDT)
Well, the problem is not making it work some way, the problem is the effort involved. The beauty of my code is that it's purely HTML/wikicode and CSS. No fancy stuff. It is possible (and actually widely done on "Web 2.0" sites) to create something like this for IE, but it involves adding JavaScript to the code, making changes to the template necessary, and generally bloating the site. So, I'd rather go with re-styling the list independently from the template, giving FF users the extra box one way or the other, but making the page prettier for all as well. Then again, I am not the admin - other people are to decide what code ends up in the template.
I originally had another three paragraphs here, but it was just random babbling that boils down to this: I'll go to List of Lonelygirl15 videos/redesign and see if I can make something nice tonight, including both the template and photos, and looking nicer at the same time.

photo montage

What do y'all think? --Brucker 15:09, 11 January 2007 (CST)

Do you mean to literally make a gallery out of the images from the videos?--JayHenry 15:14, 11 January 2007 (CST)
Oh, I'm so dumb. You already did. I like it. I think we need to add an index at the top as well, breaking the videos into time-periods of 20-30 videos.--JayHenry 15:16, 11 January 2007 (CST)
I gave it a try and figured out how to format it, but I'm not really happy on the headings and time periods I chose, maybe you'd like to give it a shot?--Brucker 16:22, 11 January 2007 (CST)
I like the photo montage. It's good for reliving some notable moments in the Breeniverse. Nice work! OwenIsCool 00:55, 14 January 2007 (CST)

and nauseam

LOL!! "Bree & Daniel's relationship and nauseam" just made me chortle. Perhaps that heading is more Latin than the average LG fan can handle these days?--JayHenry 16:40, 23 January 2007 (CST)

Sigh... indeed. ~ Jbshryne 17:21, 23 January 2007 (CST)

Previous/Next Video Links

Should the previous and next video links on the video pages include every video listed on this page? For example, right now the 'next' video in Silent Treatment is An Awkward Silence, which skips Bored At Home. I know this resulted from videos being confirmed canon and added to the list later, but should all of the links be updated to reflect the list we have now? Also, what about the OpAphid videos which are now canon? Is it ok to change the links on those pages too? Thanks.--Jonpro 13:14, 11 February 2007 (CST)

There was some talk about what to do on Talk:Miss Me? when OpAphid got merged. It looks like we decided leave well enough alone for now. You're right that the current "system" leaves out certain videos if you just keep clicking next, but I think what we can do for now is make sure that there are Notes indicating skipped videos whenever it happens (eg, The next video in the series is Bored At Home from Jonas, but at the time of its release he was not a confirmed character). Sure, some less-observant folks might miss it, but I guess it would help. I'm with you in that maybe eventually it will make sense to merge everything, I'm just not sure what would be the best way to do it. OwenIsCool 19:13, 11 February 2007 (CST)
My intention is to find time on Monday to add optional fields on the template for next and previous videos chronolgically. --Brucker 22:00, 11 February 2007 (CST)

"Fighting Back"?

As much as I beleive the Trio are taking a more active role, I hardly consider the videos from "Resuing Daniel" onward to be "fighting back," with the exception of Jonas trying to take out that Watcher. Anyone else agree that this currect Chapter name is a tad inaccurate and should be changed to something similar to "Retreat" -- I mean, come on, they ran to the bloody mountains! --Phoenician

We moved into a new story arc, and clearly the whole thing with Daniel's kidnapping is over (although I don't doubt it will be revisited) so I thought there ought to be a new section. These section names are certqainly not by any means set in stone, it's just when I put it there, there had been a lot of talk about actively fighting the Order, and Jonas assaulted that Watcher... I don't like "retreat", but unless the next video or two goes back to the tone of Valentine's Day Massacre and Watch This!, probably something else would be better than what is presently there.--Brucker 10:51, 21 February 2007 (CST)
At least I'm not alone in my thoughts. Again, "Retreat" was just a suggestion, and a pretty vague one at that. Hopefully the next vids (like "Jonas Sucks") will help clarify this new arc. --Phoenician

Ordering of OpAphid videos

Hey i was wondering about the "List of lonelygirl15 video" page. because certain videos are not in the order that they should be in. they are being put in the order of the posting date on youtube and i think that they should be organized in a way so its more understandable. i dont think that the dates matter as much. like these video titles;

Which Side Are You On? (Keep This In Mind) [The Op video should be after the video by bree; I Listened To Daniel LG, Because the which side are you on video is under video 54# Where's Daniel? and i dont think it has any reference to that episode.

Feel free to correct me if im wrong but i think some of these videos are listed completly out of the order they should be in.

- Michiev

Hi Michiev,
Thanks for letting me know that the current order isn't intuitive. My understanding is that the OpAphid videos are put into that list depending on the numbering assigned to them by the Creators when those episodes were "moved to the left bar" of the lonelygirl15.com website. Where's Daniel? is #54, and Disclosure: Cassie. We Are "They" is #54b. Which Side Are You On? (Keep This In Mind) (the one you said has no reference to Where's Daniel) is #54c.
I hope it's ok with you that I'm copying this discussion to Talk:List of Lonelygirl15 videos so that others may weight in. Personally I'd rather go by the numbers, but I think we should be concerned if those numbers don't make sense to people.
OwenIsCool 15:48, 26 February 2007 (CST)
When I added the Op videos to the list I tried to simply mirror the ordering on the main page. It's possible that I got some of the videos out of order. But in general my philosophy was that if the creators said one video is 45, another is 45a and another 45b then our list should have them in the order 45, 45a, 45b. In other words, I think, this list should reflect the official numbering.--JayHenry 16:49, 26 February 2007 (CST)

I thought that they were in the right order to but then i went to youtube and some of the videos are replies to videos that have already been posted and it makes sense for me to list them in my head that way, The way they are listed now would probably confuse alot of new-comers to the series and especially confuse them about the OpAphid videos.

If you don't know what im talking about, go to OpAphids youtube video list and see what certain videos are responding to.

--Michiev 23:41, 1 March 2007 (CST)

Along the lines of what Michiev said above, I am a newcomer to the series, and am fairly confused. Most of my confusion centers around the OpAphid-related vids; in particular, why aren't Brother and Tachyon's vids (not to mention the first Op vid) listed? I know they're not listed in the sidebar of the main site, but neither are several of LG's first few vids, and they're listed here.

Basically, my main question here is--for lack of a better way of putting it--which vids should be included and what order should they be watched in for the "optimal viewing experience" (so to speak)? Also to consider here are spin-offs and fanvids, such as cassieiswatching and Nikki Bower, and how/where exactly they fit into the picture...--71.193.75.254 23:26, 9 March 2007 (CST)

I'm not that big into the fan spinoffs myself, and I've found that it's possible to have a great viewing experience even if you largely ignore them. In my opinion, the OpAphid videos are not required viewing (with the exception of Miss Me?) and the Tachyon/Brother videos are not required viewing either (with the exception of The Human Ransom). If you're interested in some of the spinoffs like Nikki Bower, Cassieiswatching, etc., then by all means watch them. But they're not necessary to understand what's happening in the main series.
As far as which videos are listed here, it should be exactly what is on the sidebar on the main site with the exception of some of the earlier videos that could not be transferred over because of copyright reasons. They are still part of the official series while Nikki Bower videos, for example, are not.--Jonpro 12:04, 10 March 2007 (CST)

Section Titles

do you think that some of the titles for the different sections should be renamed. i mean early videos isn't exactly a good title for that section, im just wondering

Suggestions are certainly welcome, and if a better one is given, I'm sure everyone will be happy to adopt it. --Brucker 11:37, 28 February 2007 (CST)
I'm liking the new titles . . . though I'm an old fan of "One-worders," these are satisfactory! --Phoenician
