Charlie: (Sighs.) I'm still getting these missed calls. I don't know what's going on, but I know it's really messing with my head. You know, I-I even thought for a minute that it might be Kate. Yeah, I know. I've just really messed everything up lately, and, if I could just help Lauren, at least I'll feel like I might have fixed something, you know? And the most frustrating thing is she doesn't even want to be saved; she doesn't even know how much trouble she's in. I mean, at least she's got more of a chance than the rest of the girls did; well, at least more of a chance than Kate, anyway.

Julia: Hey, baby! (Comes in carrying a bottle of wine.) So, are we gonna go out or what?

Charlie: I really- I'm terribly- Oh, Jules...

Julia: (Taking the camera.) Oh, Charlie! You know you want to. (Swings the bottle enticingly.)

Charlie: I'm so sorry, I can't. Really sorry.

Julia: Oh, please!

Charlie: I really can't, babe, I'm sorry.

Julia: Ugh. (Zooms in on the printouts on Charlie's desk.) Are you still going on about these girls?

Charlie: Yes, I am still going on about those girls. In case you've forgotten, it is really important?

Julia: Yeah, but even if you do stop Lauren getting kidnapped, she's still gonna die anyway, 'cause of the trait positive thingy.

Charlie: What are you doing here, anyway? Don't you have some other friends to go and hassle? I mean, what about this new secret boyfriend of yours? Or is he too busy?

Julia: Excuse me?

Charlie: Jules, I'm- Jules, I'm sorry.

Julia: Oh, whatever, Charlie.

(Julia sets the bottle and camera on Charlie's desk and leaves.)

Charlie: Jules, please! I'm sorry! Jules! (Picks up the camera.) You see? I can't seem to do anything right at the moment. (Charlie's phone rings. She picks it up and yells.) Leave me alone!

Lauren: Maybe this weren't such a good idea.

(Charlie looks up and turns the camera to see Lauren and Julia standing outside her office.)

Charlie: Lauren. (Sighs.) Oh, please come in. Thank you so much for coming to find me.

Lauren: It's alright. I can see you're having some kind of breakdown, so I'll see you around.

Charlie: No, no, please; don't go. Please stay. Look, honestly, come in; I'm fine. I promise you, I'm fine.

Lauren: Yeah. I just wanna hear about what you were saying the other day.

Charlie: Yep, come in. Look, Jules, can you take this for me?

Julia: I guess.

(Lauren and Julia come into Charlie's office and Julia grabs the camera. Cut to Lauren sitting in one of Charlie's guest chairs.)

Charlie: Look, what can I tell you?

Lauren: I'd thought she'd just run away. (Sighs.) But I'm really worried about my sister. It's been ages. Is what you told me about the experiments true?

Charlie: Unfortunately so.

Lauren: (Sighs.) So what's the deal now?

Charlie: Okay, this is a long story, so please just hear me out. Basically there are a number of girls around the world who have what's called trait positive blood. Okay, now, there's another group of people called Elders and they're the leaders of this other group called the Order. Now, the Order have been conducting these pseudo-religious ceremonies, where they try and extract the blood from these girls because it can apparently extend your life forty to fifty years. And there's this weird psycho-doctor called William Griffin who was hired by the Order to conduct these experiments on girls, but normal girls, to change their blood to trait positive blood, and this is the guy that you met with your sister.

Lauren: You out of your mind?

Charlie: No. The experiments were a success. Lauren, you and your sister have trait positive blood. And this is why your sister was kidnapped, and this is why you're in so much danger.

Lauren: Come on!

Charlie: Look, I know it sounds crazy, but... the experiments weren't a total success.

Lauren: A success?

Charlie: There were side-effects from the drugs.

Lauren: Apart from being chased by religious nutters?

Charlie: Lauren, you're going to die. And-and if you don't the Order are gonna come after you.

Lauren: This is bullshit! You really expect me to believe all this crap you're selling? Secret Orders, special blood, mad scientists? How thick do you think I am? I'm off. (Leaves.)

Charlie: Lauren, please. I'm just trying to help you!

Lauren: Freaks!

Notes

  • Lauren has somewhat the same attitude as Kate after she found out she was trait positive.
