Headline text

Rather than a unique page for each tag, most of which are pretty clearly descriptors of her videos, couldn't we have the tags all direct back to one page that says these are tags of no particular significance, and then break out into new pages if we need them? Or could we just leave meaningless tags without links?--JayHenry 17:25, 9 October 2006 (PDT)

My wiki experience is somewhat limited, so I wasn't sure what the best approach was. I think those pages should all exist so as to keep them off of the list, but perhaps they should redirect to a list of all tags used?--Brucker 17:30, 9 October 2006 (PDT)
as long as they direct somewhere they'll disappear from that list. The list is only for broken links -- I think the new YouTube tags page you set up is good. But I don't know, I'm not an admin or anything. Let's ask Dharmabum--JayHenry 17:40, 9 October 2006 (PDT)

tag page

I completely agree. What happened was I was trying to fix links to disambiguation pages. Some vids have the tag "lonelygirl15", which links to the lonelygirl15 disambig page. I changed it to link to Lonelygirl15 (tag), which redirects to the Category page for YouTube tags. Should I leave that as is and just not include lonelygirl15 (tag) on the disambig page? Another option would be to link those tags directly to lonelygirl15 (character). Whatever we do, I just want it to be consistent and hopefully not link to a disambig page. Thoughts or suggestions? Thx. OwenIsCool 16:15, 30 November 2006 (CST)

My feeling is that in the case of the lonelygirl15 tags on the videos, there actually is ambiguity there. Furthermore, the tag is on virtually every video, and cleanup of any sort would be huge undertaking that is largely unneeded. I think the tags should only be redirected in cases where they refer clearly to something that we already have a page for, like a few cases of the tag "helper" being redirected to the Lucy page. In general, there ought not be any page that has a name ending in "(tag)", just for style purposes. I think the non-unusual tags are largely unimportant, and don't warrant a page of their own. --Brucker 17:36, 30 November 2006 (CST)
Sounds reasonable. Thanks for trying to fix some of them. I'll go back and fix the rest that link to the old tag page and get everything back to normal. OwenIsCool 01:36, 1 December 2006 (CST)

Some more category ideas

If you check here: Special:Uncategorizedpages you can see a list of all the uncategorized pages. In theory, I think almost all these pages should eventually have categories. I'm stumped on what to name the categories. A lot of pages are about real world influences of LG15 -- like Stargirl or Dava Sobel or even Richard Feynman. It would be cool to have these items categorized together. There are a number of items about stuff in the LG15 series that doesn't really qualify as Category:theories and speculation but needs some sort of categorization -- like Breebrows or Hot pink feather boa or Bandage. We also have a number of Breeniverse events (I think [[:Category:Events]] is probably adequate -- but this would include items like "The Road Trip" which is currently listed as a location, Bree chat, Fall equinox, etc. Also, we need a category for articles surrounding the series, articles like Phorum 3, Firing of Yousef or A Message From The Creators. Any other ideas??--JayHenry 15:20, 5 December 2006 (CST)

I've got a lot of ideas. I like the idea of information that relates to, but is not directly part of, the Breeniverse, such as Feynman and Sobel. Actually, I've expressed before that I'd considered the idea of how to deal with information that is part of the Breeniverse that involves real people. Perhaps [[:Category:Real-world references]] with possibly sub-categories like [[:Category:Real-world people]] et al.

I'm not sure how to categorize the minor details like the Hot pink feather boa, but some of the little details are more important than others, like the bandage, of course. Perhaps somebody needs to coin a new term like "Breeniverse" for these things, such as "Breeism" or "Breeica" (although those don't have such a ring to them).

I've already created a category called Category:Meta-discussion, although I've only used it once, and although I didn't intend it to be used in such a way, perhaps it would work for discussing behind-the-scenes issues.

As for the very specific issue of The road trip, while I think it's a legitimate enough location, I think it's a poor name, as it seems to indicate an action/event rather than a place. Likewise with The ceremony, both for the reason already stated, and because it's too easily confused with The Ceremony. I'm actually going to continue this discussion at Category talk:Locations, and leave the talk of new categories here. --Brucker 16:01, 5 December 2006 (CST)

I added categories to the OpAphid video template at Template:Aphid -- you can see them in action at You Made the Right Choice, Bree!. Pretty easy for this. I've never looked much at the wikitext in Template:Blog3 but it might be pretty easy to add there too.--JayHenry 12:29, 7 December 2006 (CST)

I'd like to see a "Category:Userpage" myself. --Treefunk 01:03, 8 December 2006 (CST)

Where you at, Brucker?? In the middle of finals or something? I'd love your input on the potential main page redesign at Main Page/redesign.--JayHenry 13:51, 12 December 2006 (CST)
Three jobs and two kids!! You must be loco. I totally assumed you were a college student!--JayHenry 14:50, 12 December 2006 (CST)

Templates

The real problem with templates is that there's no good way to test their functionality without saving the page dozens of times. I saw you made some edits on Template:blog3 but I couldn't tell exactly what you were trying to do.

On the topic of templates, last night, before I made the init template, I also made Template:imagelink. I was originally thinking of using it for linking icons, but couldn't make it work the way I wanted. Here's what the template does:

It makes an image link to an article instead of its image file. Kinda cool, huh? Anyway, though I'd let you know that the template is floating around out there, but it's also a highly sensitive template that causes all sorts of explosions. Oh well...--JayHenry 15:22, 3 January 2007 (CST)

You're about to join Modelmotion in the over 2000 edits club!--JayHenry 17:18, 3 January 2007 (CST)

I think I'll make it today; I'm going on a vendetta against uncategorized images. I figure just about every image should fit in one of these categories:

Category:Images of Bree
Category:Images of Daniel
Category:Images of Gemma
Category:Images of Jonas
Category:Images of Lucy
Category:Images of Bree's parents

Category:Images of Owen
Category:Images of Purple Monkey
Category:Images of Thor

Category:Images of fans and spinoffs
Category:Itscassie images
Category:Immant images
Category:NBR images
Category:OpAphid images
Category:Tachyon images
Category:Brother images

Category:Images of the Creators
Category:Images of actors
Category:Images of Jessica Lee Rose
Category:Images of Yousef Abu-Taleb

Category:Screenshot detail images
Category:Wiki images
I've come across a few that I can't categorize, like Image:Baphomet.jpg. Suggestions?--Brucker 17:26, 3 January 2007 (CST)

Maybe make Category:Images of Bree's parents into Category:Images of minor characters so we can also categorize The Deacon (individual) and the Watcher and my personal fave The Other Monkey. Could always make a [[:Category:Miscellaneous Images]] for the oddballs like on Cannon or Baphomet. Or is that cheating? I've been wanting to go through and categorize all the articles as well, but I've been trying to finish the Main Page redesign first.--JayHenry 17:38, 3 January 2007 (CST)

Image links?

Saw the edits you tried to make to the vid template. Not sure if this is the effect you want, but you can actually make the image redirect to the video. Somebody set this up for the character pictures on the main page, making the images redirect to the character's page. Check out:
DanielChar.jpg
Is that what you want it to do?--JayHenry 15:18, 8 January 2007 (CST)

Yeah, that's what I was trying. --Brucker 15:19, 8 January 2007 (CST)

Youtube tags on fanfic vids

Hey Brucker,
I saw what you did with the Immant blogs (the making broken links redirect to Immant), in order to clean up the wanted pages list. Do you think this is something that we should do with other series too? Tachyon, Oppy, all have tags that have a meaning in their puzzles, but would not make pages. I think what you did would work well there too, since ideally we'd like to leave the tags there. Another option would be to just remove the brackets from the broken links and leave them as text (might be less confusing to people). Lemme know what you think, I'd be glad to lend a hand. OwenIsCool 12:31, 20 January 2007 (CST)

I think it would be good for tags in general to link to the place where their meaning is explained, if it is not obvious what their meaning is. Sometimes that means linking to another page (when the odd Immant tags become clear eventually, I expect that info to be on the Immant page anyway) but sometimes it may mean linking to the same page (see what I did with the tags on Hungover. That's my view on the matter of tags in general; you may notice that I have tried in the past to make every tag on an lg15 video have a page marked with the category tag, but not every tag leads to that page. (See also the change I am about to make to Purple Monkey Returns after posting this.) --Brucker 10:23, 22 January 2007 (CST)

Ok, I doubt this is the right page or right person, but I need a little help. I created this page and I need to change its title. Can someone inform me how to go about that? Crowcity

interwiki links

I've noticed that somehow our policy on interwiki links seems to have shifted. We used to link quite a bit within transcripts, to relevant articles. We've mostly given that up. It seems to me, however, that every video with Bree in it, should link to Bree -- every video with Daniel to Daniel. Basically, any item should link on its first appearance in the transcript or notes. Or is there a compelling reason, not to do this?--JayHenry 11:29, 22 January 2007 (CST)

I'm not against it. It seems to me that in general, if a character appears in a video, we could make a link as part of the template. I did it manually in Truth Or Dare just now, but it might be nice to change the template to automate that. --Brucker 11:33, 22 January 2007 (CST)

Spin-off templates

Hey Brucker,
I like the idea of having userboxes for the spinoffs. Actually I have one template that could probably be modified for that. My Userbox Pmonkeyworld could be changed to just have the text "WANKER??!!??!!?" and then that could just link to the LonesomeOctober article. It's not a widely used template (I think only one other person besides me), but I can ask her if she minds the change. She can always just keep the code on her userpage if she wants to keep it the same. Lemme know if you like that.
OwenIsCool 20:25, 23 January 2007 (CST)

Ok, this is kinda what I had in mind: Template talk:Userbox Pmonkeyworld. It needs a little work; I want to center "Wanker" and make the colors look better. OwenIsCool 20:37, 23 January 2007 (CST)

I am totally down with being the video whore poster child... Hey..See if you can get a screencap of me jumping like and idiot in my I scream for OpAphid video..thats one idea.. Let's not do another shirtless one..that might be..too..err suggestive..hah. I actually say make someone like Immant level 2 and make itscassie level 3? What's your ideas for the 4 level names? --LordGreystoke422 17:05, 7 February 2007 (CST)
WHoops..read your post to me wrong..ahh yes..sounds good the way you have proposed..hmmm single video.. Deemontreal is a possible..let me think on this.. --LordGreystoke422 17:09, 7 February 2007 (CST)

Brucker, Thank you so much for making the user box for HSA into a template. Much appreciated! Ogog 12:05, 9 February 2007 (CST)

reversion on the cowboy

you reverted my edit where bree said "oh shit" in the Cowboy. Listen to it again, she was whispering, but the "t" was clearly there.

Send her a thin wig...?

Just curious...--Jonpro 21:44, 19 February 2007 (CST)

My fourth fanvid, and hopefully my last, as I always want to outdo my previous efforts in artistic endeavors, and that was a lot more effort than I should have put in. --Brucker 22:30, 19 February 2007 (CST)

I loved it :P --TJ Marsh 11:27, 5 March 2007 (CST)

USER PAGE VANDALISM PROTECTION

I've been changing the User pages of admins and a handful of other users to be editable only by registered users. I really think this is a good idea in general. Anybody have any thoughts on the matter? In particular, for those who are more in the know, is there a way to default all pages in the User space (and maybe the Template space as well) to be editable only by registered users? --Brucker 18:57, 20 February 2007 (CST)

Thanks :)--TJ Marsh 11:27, 5 March 2007 (CST)

Ongoing discussions

It occurs to me that it'd be useful to have a central location where we have ongoing discussions. I have trouble keeping track of the many open issues we sometimes have, and once a page falls of the recent changes page, I sometimes can't find it. Maybe it'd be useful to centralize ongoing discussions. Sorta like Da Basement on HRWiki? Thoughts?--JayHenry 14:48, 21 February 2007 (CST)

Just to add my thoughts here, I think that's a great idea. I've often had questions about things but wasn't sure where to ask them.--Jonpro 14:51, 21 February 2007 (CST)
I like the idea, but we need a cute name like that. Off the top of my head, how about LGPedia:The Order of LGPederah. (Hmm, surely someone can come up with something better...) --Brucker 14:58, 21 February 2007 (CST)
I propose we call it "Lucy's balcony". =) OwenIsCool 20:19, 21 February 2007 (CST)
I could go for that. --Brucker 20:21, 21 February 2007 (CST)
Anything works for me. I'm going away for a couple of days on vacation, but don't worry I'll be back. It doesn't mean I don't care! In the meantime...

Thanks

Thank you for welcoming me to the LGPedia. i like it here ^_^:: --Michiev 23:35, 1 March 2007 (CST)

Thanks for the heads up about the Jonas'/Jonas's thing. I made that mistake already but now I know. I love the LGPedia... it helped a lot when I was new. --Chelseyrl 4:36pm, March 8th, 2007 (CST)

Congrats!

Congrats on the new job!! I suppose your career is more important than the wiki, but if you have to leave, you will be missed! --JayHenry 13:27, 14 March 2007 (CDT)
