Welcome and the Preview Button

Hi Marbella,
Glad you're posting on the wiki; it's amazing how you divide your time btwn the comments board, the forum, and here. Just wanted to ask that you use the Preview button before saving pages so you're sure it looks the way you want it to before you save. There are two reasons for this. Multiple edits tend to clog up the Special:Recentchanges page, which we use to monitor for vandalism. It also makes the article's history page drawn out, making it more onerous to track changes since everyone becomes forced to click through many many little edits, instead of a few significant changes. Other than that, keep up the good work! I'm enjoying your edits.

Dear OwenIsCool,

Thank you for letting me know that I'm providing a useful service that you are enjoying. I realize this is the 2nd time I've been informed that I'm making multiple edits and that I should minimize them. The answer is that I'm trying really hard. However, several times, things just happen: my IE will crash, my PC will crash, my internet connection will go down.

I cannot tell you how many times I have lost the page. Therefore, I am saving frequently. I suppose I could just write it in word, copy and paste it here, check it in the preview and then just upload once. Another problem I have is that I do not see every problem until it is already on-line.

All I can say is that I will continue to work on this!! I apologize.

Marbella, 12:33 p.m.

Hi Marbella,
If you're having that much trouble with your computer, I more than understand the frequent saves (I've lost my pages before too... so frustrating!). Anyway, it's probably not worth your trouble to work on it in a word processor, since that wouldn't bring up the code errors, only spelling and grammar. Just keep up the good work with your pages and the forums and all, and do encourage people to come edit! Also if there's anything I can do to help (formatting, pictures, I dunno) just post on my Talk page and I'll be glad to see what I can do. OwenIsCool 00:01, 30 January 2007 (CST)

Catch up

Hi Marbella,

I've been looking at the Catch Up page and the Newcomer Guide and trying to think of ways to integrate them. I have to admit -- I don't exactly understand the purpose of the catch-up page. We already update the main page of the wiki to display the newest videos. Then, in the video page, we have a notes section, where we provide the relevant information about the video. It seems to me that a lot of information in the Catch Up page should simply be put in video notes.

Other information, like post count, is always changing, even once the next video is out. And I'm uncomfortable having data like this that is always going to be inaccurate. Perhaps it would be better to summarize information about the forums in the forums? I'm sure the moderators could create a dedicated thread for catch-ups. And it seems to me that the people who read the forums would rather look in the forums to catch-up.

On the other hand, I really like the Newcomer Guide. I think that with some more work, we could include it prominently on the Main Page of the wiki to help guide people who are just finding LG. We could add links to The Story So Far... and link to the LonelyGirl15Recaps videos, and really make this page a resource. It's something I'd like to work on soon!--JayHenry 23:18, 29 January 2007 (CST)

Hi Jay Henry,

Thanks for your feedback!!

I've been told by many people that the daily "catch up" is a far simpler and more helpful tool than the main page, especially for newcomers. Bethy (who originally sent me some acrimonious posts!) has even e-mailed to thank me for producing the daily "catch ups." I can leave off the "post counts" if you want. I only do it because I get a little OCD and I am curious about it.

I'm glad you like the Newcomer Guide, and I would be happy to work with you to polish it up. Instead of "recap," "catch up" is better liked, because of the pun on the word "catsup," or "ketchup." What I'm doing is NOT a recap. I'm summarizing each forum, fan videos, current video, etc. It's more of a panoramic synthesis.

Please let me know how you'd like to get started with this project. I am enjoying doing what I'm doing very much. Believe it or not, I would do it whether or not it was in the LGpedia. It just helps me to take notes. Thanks.

I'll think about the newcomer guide, and think about ways to make it more integrated. As for post counts, if you want to keep track of it, that's more than okay. Perhaps the best solutions for the catch-ups is to let you do your thing with the catch-ups, and we'll keep doing our thing with the Main Page. They seem to have pretty different philosophies, but I think they can both be a useful entrypoint to the LGPedia.

Side note on anagrams: An anagram is simply a word scramble. You can look it up on wikipedia if you don't believe me. When a word is composed of the first letter of other words, that's an acronym.--JayHenry 23:41, 29 January 2007 (CST)

To Jay Henry,

Whoops!!I do believe you. I will take that out about anagrams. I think I'm just tired and mildly snippy :) Is there any way to link the "Catch Up" and/or the "Newcomer Page" to the main page, for those looking for a more simplified alternative. Feedback I've received from newbies is that the LGpedia overwhelms them (esp. the front page.) Therefore, they just ask the same questions over and over. At least now, I can say, "Just click my sig for answers!"

This is a copy of the E-Mail from Bethy:

Message From: bethy Posted: Mon Jan 29, 2007 7:52 pm Subject: I love your Catch Up Guide

I know you probably still hate my guts...well, I hope you don't.

But I wanted to say that I just found your Catch Up Guide on LGPedia and I really like it. It's concise, informative and helpful. A lot of the LGpedia can be difficult to wade through and I think you've done a bang-up job of summarizing many of things that often get missed in all the hoopla. For some time now, I'd been hoping somebody with *good* writing skills could take the time to do something like that. Thanks for stepping up.

(p.s. Why does only the first line of her email appear in the box? Thanks!!)

The first line is indented with two spaces. If you take them off, the box goes away. Likewise, if you indent another line with the two spaces, the box will come back. I left it as it was so you could try it. Funny, I hadn't realized that's how it worked until now... guess you learn something new everyday! OwenIsCool 00:04, 30 January 2007 (CST)

Thanks for clarifying this. I have wondered this for a very long time now!! Anyway, I think it's interesting that someone who previously despised me is so happy about the "Catch Up." She's spreading the word around. More people are regularly reading it. I've read posts where people are reading it and discussing it.

Oh and I'm really happy you would like to help make these pages a more accessible resource!! --Marbella 00:10, 30 January 2007 (CST) (Hey.. did that work? I've never tried to do a sig with timestamp.. if not.. Marbella, 1:09 a.m. EST)

Catch up

Marbella, I saw in your latest catch-up that you now think Jonas is a member of the Order. I'm curious as to why. I didn't come away with that impression at all. While personal theories are great in the forums (that's what the forums are for!) we have a higher standard at the LGPedia. If there's really compelling evidence, please share that evidence so people can draw their own conclusions -- but if it's mostly just a personal hunch, that really doesn't belong here at the wiki. Thanks!--JayHenry 12:12, 2 February 2007 (CST)

Hi Marbella, if you check out my user page it says how to contact me. You can send an e-mail through the LGPedia, or you can PM me at the forum (where my name is JayHank.) --JayHenry 14:35, 3 February 2007 (CST)

The email function wasn't working, although I was logged in and have a valid email address. I didn't know JayHank as your PM name. I tried JayHenry. Finally, I sent you kind of a long email on MySpace. Thanks, M--Marbella 16:25, 3 February 2007 (CST)
