I was wondering how long it'd be before the KM redesign went up. As with the LG one, LOVE IT! I don't think it could have been done better. --Greenie205.243.71.71 18:59, 16 April 2008 (CDT)

I'm shooting for around the same time (actually, a few days later) than the LG15 one goes active. (Ren wanted it to sit untouched for a while after the LG15 portal AND the main page had been redesigned. NO WAY JOSE!) I'd say probably at least a month before either goes out, though. - Shiori 07:50, 17 April 2008 (CDT)

Color

I like the new design but I don't know about the purple color. I think red would be better looking for KateModern then the purple. - Bianca23 17:25, 17 April 2008 (CET)

Yeah, I know. I had actually originally done the design in red as I just plain liked the color, but there are major reasons why it's purple now:
  • Red was never an official color of KM, unlike blue is for LG15. It was arbitrarily chosen before the series commenced. (Seriously. The arbitrary color for a potential - and now apparently upcoming - third series was a puke yellow.) Purple is their official theme color, at least for now.
  • Colors were difficult for everything. The lighter colors, as you see being used for the vid templates and content boxes were resulting in a puke-worthy pink color. Darker colors were tried and resulted in link colorization problems. You can see the history of the pages, if you want to see how bad it was...
The nice the about the purple color - especially this purple color - is that it goes well with the red color already in use so we could leave everything alone otherwise, if we wanted to. (I was actually thinking of recoloring the headers, blog template, and video lists, and leaving everything else as-is.)
I am open to suggestions on it, though. If anyone can come up with a banging version of this in red (the images are saved in the history of the current images), and actually overcome the pink/link color problems, I'm all ears. Ren was being less than helpful on it, though. - Shiori 10:35, 17 April 2008 (CDT)

I really like the purple colourBabygurl1853

The red was chosen because of Kate's original Bebo profile, which used the red heavily, thus making it an "official color." And there are ways to work around link color problems if you have admin access :). You could test some stuff out and let me know what you needed. But yeah, I personally would prefer to stick with the red. (and um, no idea why people are so convinced there is a third series coming up soon... seriously.. way to make presumptions people :P) --Zoey 22:30, 18 April 2008 (CDT)

According to LG15Today, there is going to be a third series, though not in the Breeniverse (Wonders if it will have a portal on the LGPedia). As for the issue. If a normal red doesn't work, maybe a magenta-based color scheme would work better? --FH14 Obscenely Late O'Clock, 18 April 2008 (EST)
I was getting the third series stuff from the EQAL site's main page. Three boxes, two filled with lonelygirl and KM, the other with question marks. I reverted the header back to the original color and left the boxes purple. Am I crazy, or does it not look all that bad? - Shiori 10:30, 19 April 2008 (CDT)
The series mentioned on LG15 Today is a series created by FORMER EQAL employees, Gavin Rowe and Pete Gibbons, and seems to have nothing to do with EQAL, especially considering the comment Greg Goodfried made on the newteevee article. As far as the third box... I might point out that LG15.com has long had four boxes on the front page... but ah well, I suppose only time will tell :P --Zoey 10:43, 21 April 2008 (CDT)
LG15's colorscheme changed, and we're in the process of adapting the LG15 portal. On what logical grounds to you want to stick to an obsolete colorscheme? Red was a pure chance decision. As far as I remember, red was not as prominent in Kate's bebo design when I last saw it - it was just around the header. I have always admitted I randomly chose red for KM. To ignore the fact that the official KateModern web presence prominently uses purple, and instead using a chance decision I made because the Creators failed to give me the information I asked for during the portal design period (namely, any information regarding colorschemes or coporate design) is just stupid.
Red was a random decision during the design process - we needed a base color quickly, and red happened to be Kate's background.
Purple is the main color of the official web presence of KateModern.
Even if you insist on red having been official, it's obviously not anymore. Designs change. Colorschemes change. As an official and often-cited part of the official site canon, we should try to stay in sync with the official pages, instead of randomly deciding we're taking a totally different direction.
Purple is obviously the "official color" of KateModern right now. To divert from that is just silly.

Running of of Ren's comment, I thought I'd point out that the color associated with KM on EQAL is purple... (Like I said, the nice thing about this color purple is it meshes with red well, if need be.) - Shiori 12:00, 19 April 2008 (CDT)
Wow, Ren. I'm going to pretend that comment was meant civilly, and reply as such.
First of all, red was not chosen by you, it was chosen by me as it was the main color in the main character, Kate's entire Bebo profile and featured heavily throughout the KM presence on Bebo. Yes, they have since changed the layout, but they often change their layouts, as is customary with "skins" on Bebo. The whole idea behind using a solid color was that we would not have to constantly redesign our pages to keep up with their layouts. After all, why create more work for ourselves?
If we want to update the color scheme to purple, I do see logic for that, especially because, as Shi pointed out, it is the color associated with it on eqal.com. However, I want to point out that one of the nicest things about how we did the KM pages is the way we kept things totally uniform as far as color goes. I don't want to change half of the KM things to purple and leave the other half red... it will only confuse people. If someone wants to volunteer for updating every instance, be it simple text color, or intricate design, that uses the red into a purple scheme, then they should feel free to say so here. But without that sort of commitment, it doesn't seem the least bit worth it to half-ass the color update to keep things "current" when "current" changes so darn often. --Zoey 10:43, 21 April 2008 (CDT)
I was not talking about bebo skins (which is still red, btw, so it can't have changed that much), I was talking about the official KM main site under lg15.com. Which is very much purple.
Also, for lg15 we didn't choose Bree's color, we chose the official color used on the main site. Plus, afaik, Kate is either dead or at least not the main character anymore, so even if you based it on the main character, Kate's color would be irrelevant by now.
No matter how you twist and turn it, red is wrong.
In addition, most of the red is template-based anyway. So as much as you may try to create panic ("omg do YOU want to go through every page???"), it's mostly changing a few templates and running the bot over a few categories. Nothing dramatic.

Again with the posting that I can only assume was meant civilly...
Anyway, all I was saying is that we were justified in choosing red at the time, not that we need to stick to it today. Stating that the choice was "arbitrary" is inaccurate.
As far as updating the colors, yes most of it is just templates, but there are pages, like the List of KateModern videos for instance, which would, of course, need an entire overhaul. Somebody just has to be willing to sign up for the job and make sure the change is made consistently in every place necessary. --Zoey 11:45, 21 April 2008 (CDT)
I was planning on rehauling the video list anyway, since the font it currently uses annoys me, so that's no big deal. I'll volunteer to take care of every other color instance, too, though I'd like to eventually redo all of the headers to be rid of the flowery designs in the background. - Shiori 17:19, 21 April 2008 (CDT)
Random comment: Ren and I redid the header colors to a better-looking purple. I think it looks better than the LG15 design now. :P - Shiori 20:17, 21 April 2008 (CDT)

Definately for me it should be red. Also red is more gender neutral.--Houdini 18:49, 24 April 2008 (CDT)

Off comment, but what does gender-neutrality have to do with anything? - Shiori 19:00, 24 April 2008 (CDT)
Well girls and guys watch these videos, and there are always new fans. I don't want some guy possible turned off because it's purple. Red and Blue always seem to be for both guys and girls and so is the series. That's just my opinion though. Another thing that Renegade said about Kate not being the main character anymore neither is Bree and we still use blue.--Houdini 20:14, 24 April 2008 (CDT)
