Who Killed Kate? is the two-hundred third webisode in the KateModern video series. It is also the forty-eighth video of season two.

Transcript

(Sophie sits down in front of the camera.)

Sophie: Hi.

(The video freeze-frames and Sophie's name appears overlayed. Cut to Sophie moving over as Alice appears on-screen.)

Alice: Hello!

(The video freeze-frames once again and Alice's name overlays, followed by the word "housemate". The girls can be heard giggling as the freeze frame tilts and changes to black and white. Cut to Sophie sitting alone in front of the camera.)

Sophie: Um, I'm just blogging to say... (The video skips and Alice sits next to Sophie.) Um, I thought I'd go over everything that's happened in the last few months and do a kind of summing up. I guess. So, here goes.

(The rest of the video is interspersed with black and white clips illustrating what is being discussed.)

At the end of last year, Kate was in a really bad way, and she wasn't really thinking straight. And she'd even been sleeping rough for a while. She'd got hold of the list of girls that Dr. Griffin had made trait positive. And she knew all about Michelle Clore's agenda. She knew that Michelle wasn't interested in her for her artistic talent, but for her trait positive blood. And then she went missing again. And then next any of us saw of her, she was dead. She was stabbed and left to die in a dingy back-alley. And the worst thing about it is that no one seems to know who did it.

(The words "THE SUSPECTS" appears. Cut to clips of Steve, overlayed with his name.)

Alice: Well, hold on. Didn't the police arrest Steve immediately after?

Sophie: Yeah. And then they let him go again. Some people thought Steve might have killed Kate because she was gonna reveal Hymn of One secrets that she'd found out during her time with Michelle Clore. Even that it was because she'd knocked him back. Steve? Nah.

And then there's Rupert Van Helden.

Alice: (Reading from a notepad.) "The Hymn of One writer-extraordinaire".

(Cut to clips of Rupert, overlayed with his name.)

Alice: He was kind of cute.

Sophie: Anyway, we know he was in the country at the time that Kate died, and there were these rumors going around that he's into this new Hymn of One-Order-life-extending ritual that involves drinking the blood of trait positive girls. But he showed that those were just rumors started by the FTO, who turned out to be just a couple of geeks that were related to Dudley and the specialist, and they just wanted to stitch up the Hymn of One. But still, I can't shake the feeling that there's more to him than meets the eye.

(Alice growls seductively.)

Sophie: This is serious!

Alice: Sorry.

Sophie: Michelle Clore's another suspect.

(Sophie motions for Alice to make a note. Cut to clips of Michelle, overlayed with her name.)

Sophie: She claims that she and her shadows were on Adak Island at the time of the murder. And there's video footage evidence and everything! But I wouldn't trust that woman as far as I could throw her. She had a lot to lose from Kate revealing her secrets and a lot to gain from getting her hands on that list of trait positive girls.

I think it's only fair to say that Gavin could be a suspect.

(Cut to clips of Gavin, overlayed with his name.)

Sophie: I don't actually think he could have done something like that, but he did always seem to have it in for Kate. And he was mysteriously let out of prison by the Order. And he did turn up again, just after Kate died.

Alice: Maybe getting rid of Kate is what he had to do to get out of trouble with the Order.

Sophie: I don't believe it for a second. (Mouths "Gavin, sorry".)

Alice: What about baldy?

Sophie: Well, yeah. Well, all the time Gavin was supposed to be in prison, Tariq was MIA as well.

(Cut to clips of Tariq, overlayed with his name.)

Sophie: Oh, and now he's buggered off to India, apparently never to return.

Alice: Maybe there's a reason for that.

Sophie: Yeah, he did have a violent side. But not nearly so much as Kate's other ex, Tim.

(Cut to clips of Tim, overlayed with his name.)

Sophie: And he did seem genuinely shocked when Charlie asked him about Kate's death.

Alice: Well, if you could kill someone, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that you could act shocked to hear that they've died.

Sophie: Yeah. And I think that's about it. Oh, unless it's someone completely unexpected like, um... Oh! Maybe Dr. Griffin isn't really dead, and he blamed Kate for Dudley's murder, and it's all a revenge-thing.

Alice: Yeah, it's a bit far-fetched, isn't it?

Sophie: Well, no more than life-extending blood drinking rituals and- and secret world-controlling societies!

Alice: So who do you think did it?

Sophie: I honestly don't have a clue who killed Kate. Oh, and it wasn't me, before anyone gets any bright ideas. I loved Kate. And her videos. Oh! Charlie thinks she's on to something, though. She thinks that the girls who've been going missing are the girls off the trait positive list. Well, she thinks if she can find whoever's got the list, then she's found Kate's murderer. 'Cause Kate had the list on her when she died. (Waves at the camera.) Bye!

Notes

  • Alice is wearing Charlie's scarf from Desperately Seeking Shia.
  • Sophie's comment stating that "the last any of us saw [Kate], she was dead" is ironic, considering Kate's body was never shown.
  • The airplane shown flying overhead, despite Sophie's dialogue, is not Michelle Clore's. It is from the video Why?
  • While it is a likely assumption, it is not known whether Kate actually had the list of girls with her when she was murdered.
