Yeah, there really seems to be some kind of figure/statue there.

I don't know what it's significance is, if it has any, but if it's there, I'm pointing it out.

Okay. That's fine...I just want to clarify for people coming late to the thread and trying to catch up that no one is expecting these photos to reveal anything relevant to the puzzle, even if they are layered.

Fair enough. This is mostly just curiosity and digging at this point.

Could someone clarify for me what we hope to get out of this photoanalysis?

What do you think should be done instead?

I think we should accept that we've milked this puzzle for its contents, and wait for the next thing to happen. If we're chatting about the photo in the meantime, that's fine, but I think we should be very clear that the puzzle itself is not going anywhere, and that the point of the photo analysis is just to pass the time.

Does anyone else question Tachyon's interpretation of the watcher symbol? I mean...if she's right, that means we have to take these Greek letters and find what ancient Egyptian symbols they are either derived from or "look like," and then deduce the meaning from the juxtaposition. Still though...as this photoanalysis has proved, we can make pretty much anything look like something relevant.

Although I think she's right about the relevance of pairings, her explanation for the symbol just doesn't sit easy with me.

Eeps. I can't figure out the image you're talking about, but the part that looks like a snap of a young boy's head and left arm sure stands out to me with that.

And yeah, I think we're imagining things into these, too. I think if we were to look for layers and deconstruct the images, we would have a clue telliing us too... and I just cannot seem to make our clues tell us that.

I do think, though, that we were given something to do with these images.

The first image. with four symbols, was titled LIGATURES... which pretty much means that they are one symbol that has been created from the look and meaning of two original symbols. Three of the symbols are in focus, while the four is blurry.

The one that is blurry, our favorite, is also part of the second image. That image is titled AMALGAMATION, which means the mixing of or the combining of... and the image itself looks to be a recipe. On the left, we have two Greek symbols, and on the right, we have our eye with legs.

The text that follows, SEMANTIKOS, is Greek for semantics. (Note: this is related to, but is different then, semiotics. I seem to remember the two getting confused earlier in the thread. Forgive me if I'm wrong.) Semiotics theory refers to meaning that is understood by all, while semantics is more specific to a particular group of people. They are also differentiated in that semiotics is considered to be all possible forms of communication, while semantics is based on a specific form of representation, which could also serve to limit who might understand it.

The text seems to describe someone's (possibly Tach's) determination of what the meanings are of the greek letters that the watcher symbol is comprised of, and beyond that, what the meanings were of the Egyptian symbols that those greek letters were based on.

The potential greek letters included in the ligatured symbols were discussed, and mostly agreed upon, it seems... but no one has tracked down (and posted, at least) the original Egyptian meanings behind the Egyptian symbols that the greek characters were based upon for the other three...

I think it would be interesting to know their recipes. I like the idea that these are perhaps four groups in the order... what might their recipes tell us?

Unfortunately, it's almost midnight and I'm tired. But I thought I'd share what I was thinking so far, in case anyone found it interesting and wanted to look.

Is there a way to overlay the images and combine the colors? You know, like an amalgamation?

Does anyone else see an Easter Island monolith head ( http://www.dmrtc.net/~embrys/easter/monolith.gif ) right above the watcher symbol? It's more clear if you back up a bit. Haha, this stuff is so subjective!

Time to start "Learning Egyptian?" That's all Greek to me. Actually, it sounds like a pretty good idea.

I think we're looking too hard to find a single image that we've vastly overlooked what it likely is... a collage. I'm fooling around with the images in photoshop.

For the most part the backgrounds of the two are the same. Which is beneficial because they have different color saturations, giving interperative play between the two.

I'm going to play with the images a bit more then upload them. Where can one get free image hosting?
