Personally... it doesn't really matter. This IS fiction. It's not RL. Watch TV, watch movies, there are tons of shows and movies out there, where people aren't buckling up.
This just seems like a funny thing to complain about to me, because this really isn't the first time it has happened, in this series. So I don't see why it is suddenly an issue now. _________________ I know I'm an acquired taste: I'm anchovies. And not everyone wants those hairy little things. There is a reason parents try to raise their kids in "good neighborhoods." Its not about legal responsibility of the neighbors. A good parent in the South Bronx can be the best parent ever, but the negative societal influences on their kid are going to be far more pervasive than in some tony suburb.
And that great parent in the South Bronx doesn't only tell his kid what's right, he sics the cops on the crack dealers because he knows that while the village has no responsibility to his child, the village affects the child. |

I just don't think we should really be relying on said village to raise or help raise a kid. For instance, don't send that snot nosed brat over to my hut..for various reasons. Anyway, this topic is silly. I understand that the issue of seatbelt safety is "important" (depending on who you're talking to), but come on this is Lonelygirl. _________________ Me and my key...same as it ever was. |

Ah DrunkDani, always a source of laughs and wit.
Mom jokes? You can't go wrong.
But I didn't drive, I spent a fair amount of money on cab fare last night. It's inspired me to even more so expell driving and drunkness from my lifestyle, by just fucking stumblin home from now on.
Yea thats right, hide the kids. _________________ <DTayl> actually i'm the bad sister

Taig, is that a seatbelt across your mouth, or are you making a statement? _________________ You can call me Juli or LLP, whichever suits your fancy.

Taig, while I think that is funny, and I don't agree with Samara on this point, there's no need to mock her concern. Regardless of whether we agree or not, it is a legitimate concern and she has a pretty good reason for it. I still don't agree with it, but we can at least avoid mocking it, right? _________________ "Death has come to your little town..."

I respect the law. I am sure that many people also see it the way I do.
In my city there are fatal accident specific cops. Knowing that they see accidents with children that have flown through front windshields and onto roads because they weren't wearing a seat belt to hold them back, I do not question the motives of our lawmakers in this situation.
I think that it is wrong to suggest that they are infringing on our rights with THIS safety precaution.
If they made us wear full-body suits, then I would be upset. They aren't making us wear full-body suits, and there is nothing wrong with wearing a seat-belt. |
Why does everyone always argue by using children as an example? I never said anything about children. Children don't make their decisions and as a parent you are obligated to keep your child's best interests until they are of the age to make their own decisions.
Furthermore, I never said there is anything wrong with wearing a seatbelt. I always do. I'm saying that it is MY CHOICE. I should not be obligated by law to do it. I am talking about freedom of choice and ownership over one's own body and actions. People should be allowed to make their own choices regarding their own bodies and thus face the consequences of those choices whether they are good or bad. _________________ Faye: I would also totally kick Conor Oberst's ass just for having that ridiculous hairdo.
