'''Alex:''' Okay.  Umm... as you all know, I had a little heart-to-heart with my nephew yesterday.  I've decided he's a pretty cool guy.  It's weird, 'cause when I was little, I used to be really jealous of his family.  Jonas' dad was always the cool dad, you know?  I guess, I guess some people are just born that way.  You know, like if you've ever seen those pictures in magazines of, you know, that kind of handsome, rugged guy in a windbreaker, staring out to sea, that was, that was pretty much him.  My mom was uh... she was something else.  I think Jonas kinda covered it.  She was a bit of a fruitcake.  (''She and Daniel laugh.'') Umm... thanks, by the way.

'''Alex:''' I did some pretty stupid things.  There's nothing quite like the exquisite pain of loss to cloud your vision of the past.  And the more I... remembered the good times and forgot about the bad, the angrier I got at God, or whomever had taken her away from me.  And then the Order contacted me.  They said that Jonas' dad was responsible for my mother's death.  They had um, they had pictures.  They said it was a conspiracy against the religion.  Our religion.  (''On the verge of tears'') It seems silly now, but I just... wanted so badly to find somebody to blame for her death.  Anyway, I don't know what else to say.  I've recorded the message they asked me to deliver, and um, I don't know where we go from here.  But if I can help find Jonas' parents, I will.  I could really use a big brother right now.

Daniel: So, you ready? You okay to do this?

Alex: Mmhmm.

Daniel: (laughing a little) You look nervous. Just try not to be nervous.

Alex: I have a reason to be nervous.

Daniel: Yeah...

Alex: Okay. Umm... as you all know, I had a little heart-to-heart with my nephew yesterday. I've decided he's a pretty cool guy. It's weird, 'cause when I was little, I used to be really jealous of his family. Jonas's dad was always the cool dad, you know? I guess, I guess some people are just born that way. You know, like if you've ever seen those pictures in magazines of, you know, that kind of handsome, rugged guy in a windbreaker, staring out to sea, that was, that was pretty much him. My mom was uh... she was something else. I think Jonas kinda covered it. She was a bit of a fruitcake. (She and Daniel laugh.) Umm... thanks, by the way.

Daniel: What else would she do?

Alex: I told her I wanted to be a pilot once, 'cause I used to like looking into the sky, and uh, I said, "Mom, I want to fly," and she said, "Well, that's nice, sweetheart, but planes don't fly, they crash."

Daniel: Okay, yes, she was a little morbid, I guess. Yeah.

Alex: Just a, just a tad. Later on, things changed. After the fight with Jonas's dad, I really didn't see them that much anymore. I know it's bizarre, but I grew to really like the religion, and my mom toned down the, the zealotry aspect of it, and I dunno, I kinda bought into the whole Meridian thing.

Daniel: Say it again.

Alex: Say what?

Daniel: Tell me what you said earlier.

Alex: Daniel, I...

Daniel: Come on, I know it's hard, but just... just say it one more time.

Alex: I loved Jonas's dad. I really did. But my mom is... was... my mom. And uh... I kind of lost it after she died. I mean, I couldn't, I couldn't come to terms with the fact that she was gone.

Daniel: Mmhmm.

Alex: I did some pretty stupid things. There's nothing quite like the exquisite pain of loss to cloud your vision of the past. And the more I... remembered the good times and forgot about the bad, the angrier I got at God, or whomever had taken her away from me. And then the Order contacted me. They said that Jonas's dad was responsible for my mother's death. They had um, they had pictures. They said it was a conspiracy against the religion. Our religion. (On the verge of tears) It seems silly now, but I just... wanted so badly to find somebody to blame for her death. Anyway, I don't know what else to say. I've recorded the message they asked me to deliver, and um, I don't know where we go from here. But if I can help find Jonas's parents, I will. I could really use a big brother right now.

Notes

  • Alex smacks her lips a lot when she talks which may be a nervous habit.
  • Alex's statement that she has "a reason to be nervous" could imply she is worried about what the Order will do after seeing her apologize to the Resistance.
  • "I've recorded the message they asked me to deliver" refers to the monologue Alex was forced to give by the Order in Alex Is....
  • Although this is officially one of Daniel's videos, this is really Alex's first blog.
