Transcript
(Jonas and Sarah sit in an office. Jonas is looking around the desk as Sarah talks to the camera, hidden in her bag.)
Sarah: Okay, so we're here at the Lullaby Project.
Jonas: Shh!
Sarah: (turning to Jonas) Sorry. (looks back at the camera) You probably know them as the place that's trying to stop, you know, infant mortality in third world countries.
Jonas: Sarah!
Sarah: This is important. (Turning back to camera) We're trying to prove that they're in cahoots with the Order. Jonas came up with this brilliant-
Joans: Shh!
(A receptionist enters the office and the pair quickly move back to their seats and act normally.)
Receptionist: So, where were we?
Sarah: Yeah, we were, uh, we wanted to volunteer for the Lullaby Project. Why don't you tell her, honey?
Jonas: Hm? Oh, uh, okay. Well, we, um, we got interested...You know what, honey? Why don't you tell her because, you know, you just tell it so much better.
Sarah: Aw, thanks. I moved to Los Angeles to become an actress. Heh...
Jonas: Hmm...
Sarah: ...and when I heard about all the--everything that you were doing, acting suddenly seemed so shallow.
Receptionist: That's nice. But, I have to tell you guys, it's an awful lot of hard work.
Sarah: But, isn't anything that's worth doing hard work?
Jonas: (putting his hand on Sarah's knee) Isn't she wonderful? So amazing.
Sarah: (getting up) Yeah, do you have a ladies room?
Receptionist: Uh, yes. Out there, turn left.
Sarah: Thanks, I'm just going to grab my purse. (picks up bag with camera in)
(Sarah walks past a picture of a group of people, a kitchen, the bathroom, and finally comes to an office.)
Sarah: You know the thing that really bothers me in movies? When people enter an office. They break in looking for clues. (opening a cupboard) How do they know what clues to look for? How do they know what to-
(Sarah turns to see a different receptionist with glasses standing behind her)
Nosy Receptionist: Can I help you with something?
Sarah: Uh...I got lost. Where's the ladies room?
Nosy Receptionist: (Smiling and pointing) Oh, it's the next door down.
Sarah: Thanks.
Nosy Receptionist: Right that way.
Sarah: Helpful.
Nosy Receptionist: Sure.
Sarah: (as the woman leaves ) Great.
(Sarah walks down the corridor into another office
Sarah: This is starting to get on my nerves. (flipping through files) I mean, even the smallest offices, they're full of files and drawers and...nothing. I mean, seriously, what are they going to do? File something under incriminating evidence? (turning the camera to her face) Not.
(finds several boxes marked "Fragile;" looks inside an open box)
Sarah: What's that? Smoking gun.
(takes out a smaller box)
Sarah: (reading) "Verdus Pharmaceuticals Multi-Vitamins."
(The Nosy Receptionist finds her looking in the boxes.)
Nosy Receptionist: What-What are you doing?
Sarah: Uh, do you have a ladies room?
Nosy Receptionist: (Walking backwards, pointing at Sarah) Stay there, I'll call security. Stay right there.
Sarah: Yeah, sure. Right. I won't...Oh, shit.
(runs; scene switches to her in rented house, talking to the camera.)
Sarah: Oh, Jonas. I mean, look. I know what the Order and The Hymn of One and all their wacko friends are capable of, and I know that things aren't always what they seem. But the Lullaby Project? I mean, these people? They just seemed like do-gooders. And sometimes, if it looks like a duck, it quacks like a duck--(Leaning forward) I'll spare you the suspense--it's a duck.
Notes
- It is unclear what happens to Jonas when Sarah is running away from security. Just because Sarah doesn't tell us that Jonas is missing in action is not proof that he is not so we must assume that he got out okay.
