Help:Spampatrol

From LGPedia
Jump to: navigation, search

The Spam Patrol is a group of users on LGPedia that have been given quick-rollback and ban rights for the sole purpose of defeating spammers quicker and more efficiently. Their power allows them to remove spammed revisions with one click, instead of having to manually edit and save the previous version, and it allows them to ban spambots while they're still on the move, instead of having to clean up after them, hoping for an admin to come along and end this.

If you have been selected for Spam Patrol

You will notice two major additions to your user interface: In the parenthesis that usually said (Talk | contribs), you will now find (Talk | contribs | block), or, for anonymous users, (Talk | block). As you may have guessed, this new link allows you to ban that user from LGPedia. Do not abuse that link. If you abuse your powers, you will lose them and be disciplined immediately. Use this power to ban spambots (if you were selected for this group, you know who they are) and aggressive human spammers. If you have the time, issue some post-block markings with Template:Spambot-banned, to keep track of already-banned IP addresses.

Don't ban users in normal content disputes or other arguments. Leave that to normal administrators. You have been given this power to fight spam, and nothing else.

The second addition you will find is the rollback link. This link allows you to revert all edits by a user or IP address with one click on it, instead of having to manually select a previous revision and re-save it. It is located in the user row of the diff view, next to the block link. Be careful not to misclick. [Mark as patrolled] and [rollback] look very similar. Watch out which of the two you click - you wouldn't want to revert two hours of work by accident. (Especially not if you were actually just going to tell everyone it's fine.)
