Transcript

Daniel: All right, today is the day when I film my movie. It's gonna be fun. Here's the script "When Ninja's attack". (answers mobile phone) Hey man, what's up? You here? There. They're here. Is that your truck? That is rad. (opens door) What's up guys?

Mark: What's up buddy?

Daniel: You ready to make a movie?

Mark: Let's do this.

Steve: What's up?

Daniel: What's up, dude?

Steve: Yeah.

Daniel: What do you got, man?

Mark: Okay, we got. I borrowed some stuff from my uncle. He did a lot of movies in the 80's.

Daniel: Oh man, the 80's??

Mark: But they're still good, man, it's totally still good. Grab the nun chucks?

Daniel: Yeah, yeah yeah. By the way, guys, this is Sarah. Sarah, the guys, Mark and Steve.

Mark: Hi. I like your shoes.

Sarah: They're boots.

Steve: What you reading?

Daniel: So, let's get the rest of the stuff.

Mark: Um, are the ninjas here yet?

Daniel: Yeah, they'll be here. They're just, uh. They'll be here. (talking lower to Sarah) Sarah, c'mon, that's our crew!

Mark: So, welcome to Daniel's movie. Daniel, how's it coming with the ninjas?

Daniel: It's all right. (talking into phone)

Mark: He asked me to film this, should be interesting.

(Mallory comes in and attempts to kiss Daniel.)

Daniel: Hurry up, c'mon, go, go, go.

Mark: Dude, Mallory's so fucking hot.

Daniel: Plug it in. Yeah perfect.

Sarah: Daniel?

Daniel: What? What what?

Sarah: Red or black?

Daniel: Whatever.

Mallory: I think you should go with the red one.

Sarah: I'm asking the director.

Daniel: Just go with the red!

Sarah: Fine.

Mallory: Is this gonna work?

Daniel: Babe, you look good in anything. C'mon. (hands Mallory some pompoms) Don't forget these.

Mallory: Thanks, okay.

Sarah: They're very fitting.

Daniel: C'mon, hurry up ladies! C'mon! (going outside with a can of spray paint) So, this is gonna be for our ninjas. I mean, this is going to be one of our weapons...it's gonna be their bow, it has to look like wood. Are you kidding me? Argh! Okay, and don't push too hard, cause that's gonna spot, you don't wanna spot. So you know, if it gets that close, see how that looks like crap? I want you to get in there and give it a nice, nice, smooth and... but you don't wanna leave it like that. It's gotta look good, so just go ahead and give it a shot. No no no, not that close man. I'll do it myself. Look, just like that. All right? Okay.

Steve: All right.

Daniel: You got it?

Steve: Got it.

'Daniel: (patting Steve on the shoulder) Awesome.

Daniel: (back inside, talking to Mark) Um, I can't get hold of the ninjas, how do you feel about being a ninja? Guys, time is money, c'mon let's get a move on! Yeah!

(Steve and Mark come in dressed in black. Sarah laughs.)

Daniel: Sarah, please. Uh, let's see some ninja moves.

(Steve and Mark kick and hit the air.)

Daniel: Yeah, that's good. Perfect. Grab some gear and let's get all suited up. Um... that's... yeah try that.

Mark: Dude.

Daniel: Try it on. C'mon, man, try it on. Just get it over your face man! Pull it down!

Mark: Dude, it's made for a ten year old!

Daniel: For the scene! Commit!

Daniel: (walking outside) Look at this! Didn't I ask somebody to paint these?

Mark: It's not that big a deal.

Daniel: It is a big deal. You know what...

Mark: (exasperated) Daniel! Why don't you do it?

(Cut back to inside. Daniel is showing Mallory and Sarah their scene.)

Daniel: You, what I want you to. .. you know what, what I want you to do is just pick up ... let's get this going... hold on, just... just listen to me, listen to me, and you pretending like you're listening, just give her a ... kind of like a ...

Sarah: Just tell me what to do, you don't actually have to act it out for me.

Daniel: What, why?

Sarah: I'm just saying, it'll be more natural.

Daniel: Okay, whatever, just do it. Do it. And, action! Action!

Sarah: I'm actioning!

Mallory: That has, like, a lot of calories in it.

Daniel: Cut! That was awesome, that was great.

Mallory: Wait, I have like another line there.

Daniel: I'm sorry, I didn't even know. Okay, you know what? It was great though, we'll just pick it up from there, we'll just start over. And more! More cream cheese. Pick up the bagel, all right? Pick up the bagel, not like that, just pick it up, like under here, under here. C'mon! Geez.

Sarah: Do you wanna do it??

Daniel: Just put the bagel down, you know, put it down.

Sarah: Why don't you just do it?!

Daniel: You know what your motivation is? Just do it, that's what your motivation is.

Daniel: We're rolling?

Steve: Yep, rolling.

Daniel: Action!

(Cut to Daniel eating a slice of pizza.)

Daniel: Dude, grab some pizza, you don't have to film right now, man, go ahead.

(Cut to Daniel whispering to Mallory.)

Daniel: (to Steve) I don't know man, it's been an issue. I think we ought to change it.

Steve: I think the onboard mic has been doing pretty good right now.

Mallory: Hey Daniel? Can I talk to you for a second?

Daniel: Yeah, what's up?

Mallory: I just wanted to say that I think you're doing a really great job. But also, I feel that the characters need to have more depth. I know you're trying to make a statement about stereotypes and everything, but I think that it would really help the project.

Daniel: Yeah, I know. I think it's really great that you're bringing that up. We'll try it once your way and one time mine. How about that? Is that good for you?

Mallory: Yeah.

Daniel: Thanks, baby. (kisses his finger and touches her nose)

Mallory: Okay. (he walks away, and she has a look of hurt and disappointment)

Daniel: (to Sarah) Uh, you wanna get off the phone, maybe? I don't know, we're trying to work here? Just, we're doing this? Just, whatever.

Sarah: Sorry...

(Cuts to a shot of Mark filming, as Daniel and Sarah are engaged in a kissing scene. They stare into each other's eyes.)

Daniel: Cut! (turns to Mark) How was it, man? Was it good?

Mark: It was good.

Daniel: It looked good?

Mark: Yeah, yeah.

Daniel: (approaching Mallory, who is sitting on the couch) What's wrong?

Mallory: Nothing.

(Daniel attempts to kiss her, but she turns away.)

Mark: (v.o. as we cut to next scene) Let's go find Daniel...

(Mark approaches a back room, where Daniel and Sarah are having a discussion in hushed tones.)

Sarah: All I'm saying is ... is by telling the truth.

Daniel: Are you crazy? That's gonna make it a hundred times worse. How would you know?

Sarah: All I'm saying is there's a reason you decided to kiss me instead of her...

Daniel: What?!

Sarah: ...and there's a reason that you're not telling her the truth. What we really need you to do right now is looking for Jonas and Emma, okay? So, you just need to be honest.

Daniel: Uh... look who's talking!

Sarah: What is that supposed to mean?

Daniel: What do you think that's supposed to mean, Sarah? I have to finish up this movie, A; B, I don't even know where they are, so why don't you do me a favor, go out there so we can finish up, them we can do other things too, huh?

(Cuts to Daniel talking to Mark and Steve)

Mark: What's up?

Daniel: I think that's a wra-- (looks around) Where's Mal?

Mark: Uh... dude, she bailed.

Daniel: What?? (goes to front door, opens it and leans out) Mal! (closes door, walks back to where Sarah is) Sarah!

Mark: We should go.

Steve: Let's get outta here!

Notes

  • Daniel's friends Mark and Steve appear for the first time to assist Daniel in making his film.
  • It is possible that the "missing ninjas" are Emma and Jonas.
  • Steve is the first person "of color" to have a speaking role in the LG15 series. The last black person to appear was the homeless watcher in Warwalking.
