Transcript

(Mason holds his head in his hands. He slowly raises his head, appearing to be thinking hard. He raises his head more, looking into the camera before looking away again. Cut to Mason talking to the camera.)

Mason: I thought I could... sweep in... make things right with her. Save her. And then everything would be okay, and she would know that... that I actually wasn't such a bad person. She hates me. And half of you guys hate me. And Will hates me...

It seems like... any time I try to make things right, any time I try to do something that I think will turn things around, I always mess it up. I left her.

Crystal and I... lived in... a... hard place. We had an abusive father, and... mom wasn't around. Every day it was like... (Mason sighs as he decides to change his train of thought.) I was tired of seeing her get hurt, and I was tired of being hurt by him. And so, one night, I decided to pack my stuff up and leave. And I took her with me.

We both ran away from home when we were teenagers. I thought that I could protect her, and that I could help her, and that we could get through it. I thought I knew what I was doing. A couple years pass, and... I was tired of doing it. I was tired of constantly having... all that pressure. It was like I was living inside a coffin. I couldn't breathe.

I... became... angry, and frustrated at her. And at everyone around me. And at myself. And-- When you're put in that kind of situation, where everyone expects you to constantly deliver, to constantly do everything the right way and... and you're just a kid, it messes with you. And so, three years ago, I left. I told her I was leaving, that I couldn't take it any more, that it was too much, and... I was gone. And she spent the past three years by herself. And... from what I've been able to find out... she'd been better off with dad.

I thought that I could meet back up with her, and that we could start where things left off and I could make a difference, and now she's stuck in... the middle of a mess that I made. And it's all my fault. They took her... to get to me. Well, you got to me. I'm gonna find you, I'm gonna find out where you've taken her, and I'm gonna fix my mistake.

Will and I were being followed. We're gonna go dark for a few days. We'll meet back up around Wednesday of next week with you all and let you know where we're at. If any of you still care. I- I made a mess of things, I get that. But just help me get her back.

I've got a plan, I do. I just need time. I'm gonna bring her back, and then it's all gonna be over.

(Mason reaches up and turns off the camera.)

Notes

  • There are two pieces of Greek text seen at 0:00 - 0:02 and 5:55. They translate to "What happens to the tightrope walker who falls without his safety net?" and "Wait for my sign." For more information, see LG15: Outbreak puzzles.
  • The title of this episode could reference and relate to an episode of Lost close to the same name ("Because You left").
