Transcript

(Charlie is following Steve outside at night.)

Steve: (Turns to the camera.) We're here to meet Patricia Nielson, the TV journalist. She reckons she's got something to show us.

Charlie: But she promised there'd be no cameras this time. Except ours', of course.

Steve: (Steve points to Patricia standing on the sidewalk.) There she is.

Charlie: I don't know.

Steve: Hi.

Charlie: Oh! There she is. (Walks up to Patricia.) Hey.

Patricia: Hi, Charlie.

Steve: Hi. My name's Steve?

Patricia: (Steps closer to Steve.) Steve. Of course. I recognize you from the videos alone.

Steve: So what's this about?

Patricia: Okay. When I was walking down here last night, I mean I normally park the car around here...

Charlie: Yeah.

Patricia: And I'm sure I saw her. I mean, I wasn't sure at first, but there are hundreds young girls in London, right? When I saw her closely, it was definitely her.

Steve: Who?

Charlie: What are you talking about?

Patricia: Kate.

Steve: You saw Kate?

Charlie: Kate?

Steve: What was she doing, giving out soup?

Patricia: No.

Charlie: It can't be her.

Patricia: She'd been given some. And a blanket.

Charlie: What?

Patricia: She's sleeping rough.

Charlie: Where?! I mean, K- It's impossible! Where- I mean, where's she staying? Where did you see her?

Patricia: Look, there's a charity just down here. Shelter? (Leads Steve and Charlie down the street.) They give out food, blankets, soup... That kind of thing. Medical aid. You know?

(Patricia stops in front of a sign for the shelter. Charlie zooms on the sign, which reads "Free Overnight Shelter: Always putting a roof over your head.".)

Steve: So she might be here again? Tonight this girl will be back that looks like Kate?

(Patricia nods.)

Charlie: But Steve, that's impossible. What would she be doing on the streets?

Steve: Well, she's not at Michelle Clore's. So where else is she gonna go?

Charlie: I don't know.

Patricia: Look. There. Isn't it?

(The camera pans to down the street, showing Kate walking away from the shelter.)

Charlie: Here, hold this.

(Charlie hands the camera to Patricia. She and Steve run after Kate. They catch up with her, and Steve puts his jacket around Kate.)

Steve: You look- you look... like you could do with a bath. Is that better?

Charlie: Are you feeling okay?

Patricia: Kate... What were you doing there?

Kate: (Looks confusedly at Charlie.) Who's that?

Steve: Oh, no, she's okay. She's a, uh, journalist.

Charlie: It's okay, Kate. She helped us find you. She's fine.

Patricia: Hi, Kate, I'm Patricia. Look, would you like- rather me leave?

Kate: (Shakes her head.) I don't care. Look, I'm sorry for running out on you guys on Christmas.

Steve: No, it's fine. Don't worry about it.

Kate: No, it's not okay, Steve, you're just being nice to me. I'm sorry for ruining your Christmas day. It's just-

Charlie: Kate...

Kate: I couldn't stand the guilt, and then Gavin mentioned Dudley, and it all just got too much for me. And I just feel really bad for- Just messed up everything.

Charlie: No, no. Why did you take the flash drive with the list of girls' names?

Kate: (Sighs.) Charlie, it's up to me to find these girls. It's not you, it's my fault. I've got to get- I've just got to sort this out. It's not your problem.

Charlie: No.

Steve: Kate, you shouldn't be doing it on your own.

Charlie: Steve's right. I mean, we'll help you. You can come home with us and we'll help you. We'll do it together.

(Charlie and Steve nod.)

Kate: Okay, I'll come home.

Charlie: Just imagine. It's gonna be so great. There's gonna be nice fluffy pajamas, nice warm bed...

Kate: Okay, but I need to use the loo. (Takes off Steve's jacket and hands it back to him.)

Steve: Sure, sure. But keep it on, it's freezing! (Pushes his jacket back on Kate.)

Charlie: Hey, Kate...

Kate: No, no, no, Steve, one minute. Please. Just take your coat. I will be one minute.

Charlie: No, no, really. Patricia is parked nearby, right? And you can just use the loo there. She's just gonna run us home. You're close, aren't you?

Steve: It's not far, it's fine.

Patricia: Yeah, it's fine. But would you mind if I took notes?

Kate: No. (Pushes Steve's jacket off.) I don't want Gavin to see me like this. He'll just make fun of me. I just want to wash my face. I'll just be one minute.

Charlie: Okay.

Kate: (Pushes past Steve.) One minute.

Charlie: Okay.

(Kate runs across the street to a restaurant. Numerous cuts to Charlie and Steve waiting anxiously for her to return.)

Charlie: Why is she taking so long?

Patricia: Do you want me to, um, try and find her?

Charlie: No, no, no. I'll go. I'll go.

(Charlie walks over to the restaurant and goes inside. She can be seen searching for Kate as sounds from the restaurant overlay the audio track. Steve is waiting anxiously outside. Charlie eventually comes running from the side of the restaurant.)

Charlie: Oh no, she's gone!

Steve: Where? (Runs to the side street to look.)

Charlie: She must have slipped out the back door when we weren't looking. I lost her again.

Steve: Hey! Hey. You come- Come here. (Hugs Charlie.)

Charlie: It's just that-... Not again.
