Partner Swap is the four-hundred ninety-second video in the lonelygirl15 video series. It is also the eighty-second video of season three.

Transcript

Emma: Okay. Hi. We need to settle this prom date situation ASAP. Because it has been musical chairs in terms of who's taking who, and it's driving me crazy. (moves closer to camera and crosses her eyes) But it has to end in a few hours because prom is tonight.

(Cut to Daniel, sitting on a couch.)

Emma: Hey.

Daniel: Hey, what's up, how're you? (Throws the magazine he was previously reading over the back of the couch. Emma laughs.) Hi.

Emma: What're you, looking for tips on the big night?

Daniel: Wh- what?

Emma: Huh?

Daniel: (moves down the couch, closer to the camera) What is this, like interrogation time, or something?

Emma: Uh, yeah. It's my prom.

Daniel: Oh...

Emma: Yeah.

Daniel: ...your prom.

Emma: Yeah.

Daniel: Okay.

Emma: I wanna no holds barred---

Daniel: (nods)Do ya?

Emma: ---real world confessional booth breakdown.

Daniel: (nods) 'Course you do. Yeah. Totally.

Emma: Minus the skankitude, thank you.

Daniel: Ahh. Okay. (Emma laughs.) Well, if you really wanna know...

Emma: Yeah? (Daniel looks left and right)

Daniel: I'm going stag.

Emma: Really?

Daniel: Yeah.

Emma: Eh, that's not what I heard.

Daniel: What do you mean that's not what you heard?

Emma: I don't know.

(Cut to Jonas, out on the porch.)

Jonas: Man, I can't believe we're doing this.

Daniel: (laughs, off-camera.) Iknow.

Jonas: You know, I didn't even go to my own prom.

Daniel: Ah, me neither.

(Camera is set down on a piece of furniture. Jonas talks as Daniel walks into view and sits down next to him.)

Jonas: So, uh, tell me. Who's the lucky lady gonna be?

Daniel: (laughs) The lucky lady is uh... well, I was gonna ask Sarah. (nods)

Jonas: (scoffs) Sarah? (Daniel makes a gesture with his hands. Jonas laughs.) Really?

Daniel: Wha-- yeah. (Jonas laughs harder as Daniel examines his hands.)

Jonas: No, well, you know, good luck with that. (Daniel laughs.)

(Cut to Daniel, presently, on the couch.)

Daniel: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Who told you about that?

Emma: Let's just say someone's been a little too lax about switching out new tapes?

Daniel: Ahhh.. yeah, I wonder who that could've been? I think, uhhh...

Emma: Uh-huh.

Daniel: ...me? Maybe? Just poss-- yeah? (puts head down) Shit.

Emma: You left yesterday's footage in the camera.

Daniel: Yeah, I did. Awesome.

Emma: Nice one. (turns camera back on herself)

Daniel: (off-camera) That's great.

Emma: Love's a bitch, duck. Love is a bitch. (turns camera around, back to Daniel.) Now go get her.

Daniel: Wh-- now?

(Cut to a shot of Sarah coming down the stairs, unaware she is being filmed. The shot is taken from around a wall. Daniel follows her down shortly.)

Daniel: Hey, Sarah.

Sarah: Yup.

Daniel: Hey, come here.

Sarah: (stops and turns around) What?

Daniel: (catches up with her) Sit down, sit down. Just-- yeah. Have a seat.

(The camera moves to the left as Daniel and Sarah sit down on a step.)

Daniel: Um. You going to this prom thing?

Sarah: Yeah, I kinda have to?

Daniel: Yeah?

Sarah: Yeah.

Daniel: Okay, cool, 'cos uh... Look. (laughs awkwardly) Sarah, I know that--- recently, you and I have had our ups and downs. And-- and I know you have strong feelings for Carl. But um, here I get (muffled). I'd be a fool not to. Listen, uh, it's not like, you know, I wanna get another get another chance at this, I mean, it's never gonna happen again, so... what I mean to say... is... Sarah, will you go to prom with me?

Sarah: (pauses for a moment.) Um. Daniel, I already asked Carl...

Daniel: Oh!

Sarah: Yeah.

Daniel: Okay.

Sarah: And um, and he's-- he's driving all the way up here---

Daniel: Yeah. S-- no, you know, it's totally, j-- no worries. (Sarah begins to speak, but he speaks over her." It's cool, it's cool, it's-- there's no-- no big deal, I mean, I... (puts hand on Sarah's shoulder) I wasn't serious anyway.

(Cut to Sarah, looking disturbed and sitting on a leather chair.)

Emma: (off-camera) So you're-- done with Daniel, then?

Sarah: No! I-- it's not that. It's j-- I didn't think he was gonna ask me. You know, I j-- ugh. I know he's been really nice to me lately, but I thought that was because we were getting back on the friend bandwagon.

Emma: Well-- yeah, but Carl over Daniel? (Sarah holds her head in her left hand.) I mean, don't get me wrong, I do like the guy, it's just... I don't know, it's like choosing Biff over Marty McFly, you know?

Sarah: Well then, why don't you go with Daniel?

Emma: Ah... that may be a problem?

(Cut to the footage Daniel had taped on the porch with Jonas the other day.)

Daniel: So? You gonna ask Jennie, or what?

Jonas: You know what, no, actually I think I'm gonna ask Emma. You know, it'd be a nice big brother gesture to do, don't you think?

Daniel: Right, but, uh... I mean, if Sarah says "no"...

Jonas: Yeah?

Daniel: (laughs nervously) I was kinda thinkin' that...

Jonas: What?

Daniel: ...maybe I could ask Emma, you know. If that's cool with you.

Jonas: No.

Daniel: Not cool with you...?

Jonas: No. No. No way, man.

Daniel: Okay. makes a face at the camera

Jonas: Listen to me, and listen to me good: you're not gonna date my sister.

Emma: (off-camera) Ah, excuse me?

Daniel: Ah-- oh, God. (looks away, pained)

Emma: What was that? (comes into view and sits next to Jonas.)

(Cut to Jonas, sitting in the same chair Sarah had previously sat in.)

Emma: Jonas, why are you acting like this?

Jonas: Because, it's my job to be overprotective of you.

Emma: Yeah, but it's not like anything would happen. I mean, Daniel's sweet, it's just I'm-- not really into him like that.

Jonas: (skeptical) Mm.

Emma: (imitating Jonas) Mm. Besides, you can't take me.

Jonas: (laughing) W-- why not? I think it would be kinda cool. Right?

Emma: It didn't seem so "cool" with your girlfriend yesterday.

(Cut to the footage from the other day. Jonas is still sitting on the porch.)

Jennie: (comes from off-camera and sits next to Jonas) Uh, why is Daniel afraid of you?

Jonas: Huh?

Jennie: Yeah.

Jonas: (laughing) Oh. Oh. 'Cos I told him I didn't want Emma going to the prom with him. (both laugh)

Jennie: Speaking of which, uh, when're you gonna get around to asking me?

Jonas: Oh, well, actually I was gonna ask Emma.

(Jennie laughs, then stops, realizing Jonas is serious.)

Jennie: (incredulous) What? I don't think so.

Jonas: Oh, Jennie, tell me you're not taking this prom thing seriously. (laughing)

Jennie: Yes, I am! (laughs as Jonas groans) What? You can't take your sister, you have to take the girl you've been fooling around with for the last few months. (She giggles, and Jonas puts his arm around her.) Who do you think you are, Jake Ryan? (Both laugh as Jonas hugs her with both arms.)

(Cut to Jennie, sitting in the chair Sarah and Jonas have already sat in.)

Jennie: Well, it was the sweetest thing when he asked me.

Emma: Uh... right.

Jennie: (giggles) Come on! (Emma laughs.) No, I am seriously excited for prom. I mean, you know, slow dancing... pressing your bodies together...

Emma: Okay, enough! Thank you.

Jennie: (laughing) Hey! (Emma laughs) Who're you going with?

(Cut to the hallway. Emma is walking towards an open door, through which Daniel can be seen lying down.)

Emma: Daniel?

Daniel: (turns) Oh, hey.

Emma: Hi.

Daniel: (sitting up) What's up?

Emma: Um, I was um, I was wondering... uh... all right, would you like to go to prom with me?

Daniel: (smiles) Uh, yea-- yeah, yeah!

Emma: Yeah?

Daniel: Yeah, why not? As long as you don't tell Jonas, but--

Gina: (incredulously, off-camera) What? (Camera whirls around to show Gina walking in.) Really. You used to flirt with me, and now you have the nerve not to ask me to prom.

Daniel: (laughs) Uh, it's j-- (Emma laughs)

Gina: (smiling and shaking her head) Unbelievable.

Daniel: No, no, I-- uh, I jus-- j-- oh God. (gets up quickly)

Gina: You're so caught.

Daniel: Oh no!

(Emma and Gina laugh as Daniel dashes out of the room.)

(Cut to Gina, biting her nails and sitting on the same leather chair that Sarah, Jonas, and Jennie have spoken while sitting in.)

Emma: So, how do you feel about this whole--- date situation? (laughs)

Gina: (smiles and shakes her head) I don't know. (sighs) I've never been asked to a dance before, so... I'd kind of like to know what it's like.

Emma: Yeah, me too.

Gina: Yeah. (Emma laughs.) It's so weird, the anxiety and all the anticipation.

Emma: Mm-hmm.

Gina: Is it normal?

Emma: I don't know.

Gina: (laughing) Because of it is, high school must've been a complete nightmare.

Emma: (laughing) Yeah, I know.

(Cut to Daniel, sitting on a couch.)

Daniel: Look, Emma, Gina. I don't want any trouble. I... I don't know, but-- finding a date to this thing should not be harder than fighting a secret cult bent on world domination, but-- it is. I suck at this.

(Camera zooms out, showing Gina starting to sit down on the arm rest next to Daniel.)

Daniel: Clearly. So... (notices Gina next to him and chuckles.) I'm sorry, but--

Gina: Daniel?

Daniel: Yeah?

Gina: Will you go to prom with us?

Daniel: Us?

Gina: Mm-hmm.

(Emma gets up, along with the camera. Gina hops down on to the couch.)

Emma: (off-camera) Yup. Having, not one, but two-- (Daniel chuckles as Emma sits down on the other side of Daniel) -- awesome, hot dates is probably the best way to make Sarah jealous. (Daniel laughs and Emma nods at the camera.)

Gina: Yup.

Emma: Yeah?

Gina: Mm-hmm.

Daniel: (chuckles) Okay, well...

Emma: Yeah?

Daniel: (high-pitched) Yeah! (Gina and Emma laugh.)

Emma: (lowers the camera) Awesome.

'Cut to Emma, lying on her bed.)

Emma: Okay, so there you have it. Sarah is taking Carl, Jonas is taking Jennie, and Gina and yours truly will be escorting Daniel. (moves the camera closer) I have this feeling that we are going to have the most memorable night of our lives.

• Emma's mention of "Biff" and "Marty McFly" is a reference to the characters in the Back to the Future motion picture trilogy, played by Thomas F. Wilson and Michael J. Fox, respectively.
