Purple Monkey Returns is the one-hundred twelfth video in the lonelygirl15 video series. Daniel employs the help of Purple Monkey to try to cheer Bree up, but Bree makes it very clear that she doesn't want to see either of them.

Transcript

(Daniel is sitting alone in the library)

Daniel: How can Bree not want to talk about what happened? It sounds like one of those things she's supposed to say. Her mom once got mad at her because she was crying because it...projected weakness or something. This whole...not wanting to talk thing? Reminds me of back in October with the fake ceremony and... her telling me not to get involved. She's lucky I did. Jonas told me that his "Bree mental health exercise" failed. Miserably. Which frankly doesn't- that doesn't surprise me. Jonas... he's really into talking about feelings. Don't be fooled by the whole "bro" thing. Actually, he's kind of like Patrick Swayze in Point Break... except we don't surf. Or rob banks. We just talk. He gets misty-eyed and we hug it out. (laughs) It's only a matter of time before Jonas has us doing trust falls. That's not gonna cheer Bree up. I know what will.

(Music plays, and we see Bree curled up on the couch with Thor. Daniel walks up to her with P. Monkey on his hand. He sits down and plays with him in front of her face. Bree turns her back to him. Daniel brings Owen over, but she flings him away. Daniel comes back in front of the camera and shakes his head. He brings Bree a bowl of chocolate. Bree takes one, but doesn't appear to eat it.)

Daniel: (in a weird P. Monkey voice) Hey babay, this is P. monkay wuts goin' awn! C'mawn babay, ah'll sang u a sawng! Mah names P. Monkay, c'mon, cheer up! Just cheer up, babay! Hey, c'mawn!

(Bree is annoyed. Bree pushes P. Monkey and the camera away and leaves the couch.)

Daniel: (In front of the bathroom door) Hey, Bree? (Knocks) Bree, why won't you talk to me?

Bree: (In bathroom) Go away, Daniel.

Daniel: So... you're not gonna talk to me. You know what, I'll just leave P. Monkey and Owen sitting outside the door. Apparently they're the only people that get you so...

Bree: Leave me alone.

Daniel: Bree, the only reason I'm here is for you! I left my job, I left everything, and you won't even talk to me! Just give me a chance!

(Bree opens door)

Bree: Daniel, turn it off. Turn off the camera, Daniel. I need... to be by myself right now. I don't wanna think about it.

Daniel: Why?

Bree: I just want my own space! Daniel, you just ... (Bree slams door shut)

Daniel: Bree, (opens door) look, I came back here for you! And all I wanna do is help with your dad.

Bree: You keep talking and I don't want you to, I don't want anybody to help me!

(Music plays and we see Bree standing over the bathroom sink. We then see her facing the camera and talking to Daniel. The camera backs away as she closes the bathroom door.)

Daniel: Well that... didn't go too well. I don't know what I'm gonna do.

Notes

• This is the first official LG15 video where one of the bloggers other than Bree has done the voice of P.Monkey.
• "Point Break" was a 1991 movie starring Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves. Patrick Swayze, as Daniel suggests, led a gang of surfers who robbed banks. Keanu Reeves plays an FBI agent assigned to track him down. Patrick Swayze's character gives a soulful defense of why he robs banks, and Keanu Reeves' character refuses to arrest him.
• "Trust falls" are a technique used in team-building exercises. A person will close their eyes and face away from a partner. The person, with eyes closed, will fall backwards and trust that the partner will catch them.
