With three videos, the latest developments column is short, yes, but it matches up and there is just empty space. However, when the latest developments column is too long, it creats this ugly gray space (seems the bottom border is becoming too wide) to make up for it. If we want to keep four videos, then we need to get rid of that ugly gray space and make it match the color of the featured articles box. --[[User:68.169.69.156|68.169.69.156]] 16:43, 15 January 2007 (CST)

Talk Archive for Main Page

New Main Page

I'm taking the new Main Page live over the next couple minutes. Hooray!--JayHenry 17:05, 4 January 2007 (CST)

And it's up! Yay!--JayHenry 17:15, 4 January 2007 (CST)
Nice! I fixed a couple minor errors I noticed. --Brucker 18:29, 4 January 2007 (CST)
The new main page looks great! I'm very happy all of our hard work paid off. One thing I noticed... the latest developments column is a bit longer, which is invariably going to happen when we have longer video discriptions. However, it's way longer. Maybe we should take off one of the latest videos and add it to the list at the bottom ("Recent Videos"). For instance, we could take off Bree's Gone and add it to the list, to even it up a bit. I'd do it, but I wanted to make sure nobody objected. --Andy 21:29, 4 January 2007 (CST)
Hmm... strange. They line up just right in IE, but in Firefox, the latest developments column is a little bit longer (although only a tiny bit in my browser). That's the general idea behind the Main Page, to move videos into that Recent Video list once the page starts getting too long. By all means, Andy, go ahead and move Bree's Gone down.--JayHenry 21:49, 4 January 2007 (CST)

Further agreement on current style

Okay, so we like five video links at the bottom. How many recent vids with pics at the top? I liked four, but it was recently changed to three. Can we get a consensus? Also, what do people think about my editing down of the description to make a better fit? --Brucker 15:22, 8 January 2007 (CST)

I like the shorter descriptions, if for no other reason than it allows us to keep an extra video on display. I don't think it's necessary for the descriptions to be the official video description. I only used the same variable name so that it could be quickly and easily copied from the video pages. Also, is that OpVid template tested and ready? If so we should add a usage note where it says how to add a new video.--JayHenry 15:23, 8 January 2007 (CST)
I think it (OpVid) looks good, but I haven't heard any feedback yet. Should we post links to the new "Gemma?" videos, or treat them like old videos reposted?
Actually, I feel like the creators are giving us a hard time. Every time we get things figured out, they throw us a curve ball like this. For instance, is The Unthinkable Happened a Bree or Daniel video? --Brucker 15:29, 8 January 2007 (CST)

it would be Daniel and Jonas --Iris2009 15:39, 8 January 2007 (CST)
Actually, I think the craziness on Gemma's account is the perfect opportunity to use the event template. As for The Unthinkable Happened, it's just a call we should make. My thoughts -- although it was posted to the lonelygirl15 account, it was Daniel who wrote the note and did the editing. Hence a Daniel video, and this should be explained in the notes to The Unthinkable Happened. I don't see any reason to label it a Jonas video as well. Although Jonas was in the video, he appears to have neither posted nor edited it. Besides, having a video from two people doesn't work with out Blog3 template. As for the op template, I thought I had commented (although I see now that i didn't) but I like it a lot and think we should use it.--JayHenry 15:51, 8 January 2007 (CST)

I agree--Iris2009 15:58, 8 January 2007 (CST)

Video column

I see Brucker made the change I was just thinking about. I'm aware that the Main Page displays differently in different browsers, but for me in IE or Firefox, having only three videos is always way too few. Before Brucker added the fourth video, there were about three inches of empty space. Is that fourth video making the video column too long in some browsers?--JayHenry 15:59, 15 January 2007 (CST)

Right now I see 4 latest developments (back to PMonkey returns) and 5 recent vids (all the way back to Roadtrip) and it fits perfectly in my crappy IE7. =)
