Transcript

(Charlie is sitting at a table. Her face is wet with tears.)

Charlie: I don't really understand what happened today. And I feel like if I talk about it I can make some more sense out of it. (she sniffs) We got home from Devon and just started unpacking.

(Cut to Charlie rifling through her wardrobe in her bedroom and generally unpacking.)

Charlie: (to herself.) Yuck. I can't wear that.

Kate: (looking through a pile of clothes etc on Charlie's bed) I thought you said you'd unpacked?

Charlie: I have!

Kate: You call that unpacking? (Kate picks up a sandwich wrapped in cling film from Charlie's bed.) Charlie... that is gross. Please don't tell me you were saving that for the journey home.

(Charlie laughs. Kate receives a text message on her phone. She looks serious.)

Charlie: Is that Tariq? (no reply from Kate) Don't tell me it's Luke from the band, that little horn dog?

Kate: No it's...

(Kate leaves the room and closes the door behind her. Charlie follows Kate.)

Charlie: Hey Kate where are you going? Can I come?

(Kate leaves through the front door of the flat and closes it behind her.)

Charlie: Sure...

(Cut back to a sad looking Charlie, sitting at the table.)

Charlie: I know that following your friends with a camera isn't a normal thing to do, but this is Kate we're talking about. (she sniffs) She'd been acting really weird and I was worried about her. (She sniffs again and rests her chin on her hands, looking away from the camera.) So I followed her.

(Cut to an aeroplane flying in the sky with the Oxo tower block in shot too. The camera then pans down and shows that they are following Kate down by the Thames alongside the Tate Modern. Charlie turns the camera to face herself.)

Charlie: She's probably just meeting up with Tariq and didn't want to say anything you know? Just in case it didn't go well and she was shy. Where is she though?

(Camera pans over a bridge. St Paul's cathedral can be seen. The camera picks up Kate walking across the bridge and follows her.)

Charlie: Is that her? Who are you meeting?

(Kate approaches Michelle Clore on the bridge.)

Charlie: Oh my God, it's Michelle Clore the artist. Cool! I think...?

(Kate and Michelle begin to talk, but their conversation can not be heard by the camera.)

Charlie: What is she saying to Kate? She doesn't look all right at all. I'm going to go up there and see. What the hell is going on here?

(Camera cuts to Charlie's fluorescent pink clad legs as she walks up on to the bridge to see Kate. As she approaches Kate is pacing back and forth with her hands either side of her face as Michelle speaks to her.)

Charlie: What are they talking about? I wonder why Kate didn't tell me she was coming here, I don't think she looks okay at all.

(As Charlie approaches Kate begins to run off.)

Charlie: Kate... Kate!

(There is a shot of Michelle Clore before Charlie continues running after Kate and calling her name.)

(Cut back to a sad Charlie, sitting at the table again. She is playing with her hair.)

Charlie: I should have said something to that Clore woman. But at that moment all I could think about was Kate. And she was running so fast, I didn't catch up to her until we got to our street.

(Cut to Charlie running up a road towards Kate. Kate is walking towards a man in a black suit standing next to a large black car. There is a beep and the car's lights flash as the man in the black suit unlocks the car.)

Charlie: Kate! Kate, what's the matter? Kate!

(Kate spins round to face Charlie. She seems angry.)

Kate: My name's not Kate. You've got no idea who I am.

(Kate pushes Charlie to the ground. From this angle you hear the car door slam closed and see it pull away leaving Charlie lying on the pavement.)

(Cut back to sad Charlie, sitting at the table again.)

Charlie: I don't understand what's happened to her or where she's been taken. I just don't understand why!

(Charlie reaches up and turns off the camera.)

Notes

  • The bridge that Kate meets Michelle Clore on is the Millennium Footbridge which crosses the River Thames, linking Bankside with the City. At the northern end of the bridge is St Paul's Cathedral, as seen in the video, and at the southern end is the Tate Modern Gallery, the art gallery from which the Kate Modern series took its name.
  • The man who takes Kate in the van appears to be a Watcher.
  • Charlie has a bandage on her arm, most likely from scraping it on the pavement after Kate pushed her to the ground.
  • This video is reminiscent of when Bree agreed to go away with Lucy.
