How the heck are userboxes made? --free2liv4evr 05:10, 25 October 2007 (PST)

Desired templates

If there is a template you wish existed, but don't see, you could try to make it yourself, or ask for it here and someone else might make it.

Hi Brucker, I made a user box for HSA. It is on my user page. I am not sure if it should be displayed here. Feel free to check it out, see if I did it correctly and I'll be happy to share it. Thanks. Ogog 21:17, 8 February 2007 (CST)

Tell me if I got it right. --Brucker 23:25, 8 February 2007 (CST)
It's perfect. It's really nice of you to help. Thanks so much! Ogog 12:09, 9 February 2007 (CST)
Someone should make an aaronbeast one. --XAccordianGuyx 16:32, 18 April 2007 (CDT)
I posted a "Bring Back Tach" userbox on my channel. Wondering if its good enough, as its my first ever. Brooklynxman if you want to check it out. Hoping its good enough (and formatted correctly, and everything else). --Brooklynxman 19:00, 19 May 2007 (CDT)
I don't know how to make one, but I'd love one that would have something to do with the phrase "go 'Bree' on you." Anyone want to give it a shot?? --Pheon 00:10, 23 May 2007 (CDT)
Okay, I actually made one! But I'm unsure on how to put in on this page. Can anyone help??--Pheon 02:15, 23 May 2007 (CDT)
done -misty 03:04, 23 May 2007 (CDT)
Hey, thanks a bunch! --Pheon 03:06, 23 May 2007 (CDT)
I made a UB referring to "Everytime you score a goal, a child in Africa dies." I dunno if anyone else wants it or if I'm allowed to put it on here... so just let me know. Chelseyrl 02:23, 25 May 2007 (CDT)
I'm currently working on a "This user like Doughnuts, especially (pick your favorite)", but I'm not sure I've done the code right for it to work. Anyone be willing to check out my talk page to see if I done it right? --Pheon 02:28, 4 June 2007 (CDT)

I made a UB saying "This user l'cares about Bree". It's on my user page. If anyone would like to use it go ahead! :)--jeans

FYI, I went ahead and made it into its own template. ~ JBSHRYNE 01:33, 2 July 2007 (CDT)

Can somebody make a userbox that says "This user thinks that Spencer should learn how to use a webcam" using the image Image:SpencerUnfocusedCamera.jpg? -R- 03:18, 4 July 2007 (CDT)

Never mind, I made one. -R- 04:09, 4 July 2007 (CDT)

Hey! I'm trying to edit all of the episode userboxes to put the episode number above the image. If everyone could help by pitching in and editing the episode userboxes, that would be great. Just make the id-fc #fff or #000 and the id-s 7. Then just put the episode number (i.e. 0222), a line break, then the image. Thank you! Love, -R- 22:35, 9 July 2007 (CDT)

Ack, no please don't do that! Userboxes are small to begin with, and the changes make them look cluttered. I appiciate you trying to help out, but this is a change I am against. Sorry bout that. --Zoey 22:37, 9 July 2007 (CDT)
Oh, OK. I got it. To me it doesn't look all that huge, but O.K. :] Love, -R- 22:50, 9 July 2007 (CDT)
Hm, I think my computer does funny things to text, everything looks kind of squished to me sometimes. If you're looking to help out though, the Participate box on the Recent Changes is full of pages that need help! It would be great if ya could take a look there! :) --Zoey 22:52, 9 July 2007 (CDT)

I would love a userbox with Taylor and Spence saying "Once you fin, he Pavlovs paw-paw roove rakes." XD --Demented Llama 11:58, 12 July 2007 (CDT)

If someone could make a hookup userbox for Spencer and Taylor that would be pretty sweet.--jeans 17:51, 12 July 2007 (CDT)

Like thiiiiiiiss? Love, -R- 20:07, 12 July 2007 (CDT)
Thanks!--jeans 02:04, 13 July 2007 (CDT)

I learned how to make Userboxes myself, but how do I resize images? Can somebody make one that says SUPER MEGA GOLDEN PHEONIX CHICKEN MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!!!!!!!!

Can somebody make a userbox that says "This user watched the 12 in 12 lonelygirl15 lonelygirl15 Season One Finale on August 3, 2007"? Alright, thanks!   •Silver•   Talk | Contribs 13:47, 4 August 2007 (CDT)

Userbox use on LGPedia (proposed)

Userboxes are normally found on this page and on individual User pages. They may also be found on pages directly related to the topic of the Userbox, so that users intersted in that topic will know they are available. In such cases, in addition to including the Userbox itself, a link back to this page is a good idea, though not mandatory. For example, on the LG15 Today page, one might find:

BloggerIcon.jpg This user enjoys the
LG15 Today blog

Fans of LG15 Today might also be interested in adding {{Userbox LG15Today}} to their LGPedia User page. For other Userboxes, see Category_talk:User_templates.
Discussion of this proposed Userbox Usage Guidance:

You know, the reason we don't add information about userboxes to topic pages is, not only is it not encyclopedic (do you see Wiki doing this?), but in order to have any use for a userbox you have to be a registered user AND want a userbox. If you haven't noticed the majority of our contributors are anonymous. - Shiori 21:14, 17 March 2008 (CDT)
QtheC, you smoking userboxes tonight? :-) seriously though, i have to agree with the comments on the talk437 page about all this. --Milowent 21:17, 17 March 2008 (CDT)
Saying Userboxes are not encyclopedic is an empty argument. It's like saying they are not allowed on content pages, so therefore they should not be allowed on content pages. The boundaries of what is included in 'encylopedic' are abitrary. A better argument against including Userboxes on LGPedia content pages would be that they are confusing, add clutter, mess up formatting, or take up space without adding much useful information (if these are true and cannot be fixed easily). But there may be stronger reasons to include Userboxes on content pages - they are fun, they encourage participation in LGPedia, they add a method for motivated individuals to put a touch of creative/humor into the LGPedia, they actually are well formatted and do not take up that much space, etc. Even if Userboxes are not widely used on content pages, perhaps they should be selectively included, e.g. on character description pages, or video description pages, or on other LG15 related topic pages, or on fan topics such the 436 (or 437). Different decisions might reasonably apply to different types pages. ~ QtheC 07:44, 19 March 2008 (CDT)
Again, not only is this adding superfluous content to pages that really don't need it, but what experience is this adding for the user? I can't really see any added benefit for users being added here, especially when you consider the Pedia is used primarily as a reference tool, not as a "here's everything you can do to make a happy user-world, assuming of course, you take the time to register!" (Can you imagine how ridiculous the Bree page would look, for example, with all of the Bree-related userboxes on it? This will get quickly out of hand, you know.) - Shiori 07:49, 19 March 2008 (CDT)
Thinking about this more, I guess if we are trying to lure people into editing the lgpedia for the joy of, among other things, userboxes and such, we can talk about some of the joys of registration on the 'how to contribute' section of the LGPedia:Welcome. [[e.g.[[, "Among the many perks of creating an account, you get your own Userpage to edit and tell the world all about yourself, and select among the many userboxes(link there) that best fit you." We might also mention that people daunted by Wikipedia might feel more comfortable learning the ropes with a show wiki like lgpedia ("Hey, you don't start playing baseball with the Yankees--try the Toledo Mud Hens first!), but I don't want to invite lower standards by suggesting that either. --Milowent 11:37, 19 March 2008 (CDT)
That's not a bad idea, Milo. Of course, we'll leave that last part out. Don't want to offend people from Toledo... - Shiori 11:48, 19 March 2008 (CDT)
So far, no good arguments (other than the ones I suggested, but which have not been fleshed out) have been made here for not allowing Userboxes on content pages. Saying they are 'superfluous' doesn't count for much. The LGPedia is both informative and entertaining, obviously. I realize that someone encouraged a handful of people to say "No" to userboxes over on the Talk:437 page recently, but unfortunately they were not directed to come here and participate meaningfully in the discussion. So at this point, we still have these open questions:
1. Should Userboxes themselves be generally included on relevant content pages (such as character pages, video pages, other miscellaneous topic pages)?
2. Should Userboxes themselves be occasionally included on topic pages, but not on the main content pages (such as character and video pages) where a standard and concise format is desirable?
3. Should links to Userboxes or the Userbox page in text form be allowed rather than Userboxes themselves?
4. Should there be a standard format for references (as suggested in the proposed text above)? (any alterations to suggest?) ~ QtheC 14:52, 20 March 2008 (CDT)

A quick search today shows that there is somewhat of a tradition established here on LGPedia of including Userboxes on "Fan Club" pages, specifically:
Spencer Gilman's Fan Club
{{Userbox CrushSpencer}} - 30 June 2007 addition by Truncated Slinky

Emma Fan Club
{{Userbox Emma}} - 17 November 2007 addition by AzukiLotus
{{userbox Emmaclub}} - 19 November 2007 addition by AzukiLotus

Sarah Fan Club
{{Userbox Sarahclub}} - 26 February 2007 addition by Phoenician

That is true, but those are pages that are directly referencing Pedia users. It's hardly the same a putting a userbox on the Bree page. (P.S. I'm going to edit your post 'cause those dif links are bothering me.) - Shiori 11:06, 21 March 2008 (CDT)
Apart from the fact that userboxes simply are not pedia content, and thus have no business to be on content pages, I think there's an angle this proposal that's not being considered: Apart from general pedia decency rules, nothing limits the creation of userboxes.
If we agree to allow userbox references on every page of the pedia, what stops me from creating Userbox QtheC fanclub, Userbox QtheC hateclub, Userbox QtheC should stop being annoying, Userbox QtheC should wear pink pants, Userbox QtheC for president, Userbox QtheC should turn around, Userbox QtheC smells, Userbox QtheC looks like green seaweed, Userbox Queue the Sea, Userbox QtheC edited my page and I liked it, Userbox Hands of my pages QtheC, Userbox QtheC is my friend, Userbox We support QtheC, Userbox We want QtheC to STFU, and so on and so on, and put them ALL on User:QtheC with the note "Users who like QtheC may also be interested in these userboxes...."
Not to mention that I could do the very same with Bree, for example, drown the page in userboxes and then point at this pages and say "hey, you allowed it!".
Userboxes are not content. The are user page material. They have their own home now, and that's where they should stay.
~ Renegade (talk | contribs) 20:32, 21 March 2008 (CDT)
I object to the one about pink pants. But seriously, I think it is quite possible and desirable to include a few userboxes on fan pages or similar ancillary pages such as the 436/437 pair, where such userboxes are entertaining to a number of people with a common interest, without swamping the more strictly formatted core LGPedia content pages (such as LG15 Character pages) with a massive number of increasingly silly or individually tailored userboxes. There's no need to go to an extreme. Userboxes are just like any other material that appears on the LGPedia, requiring some judgement and concensus to avoid a ridiculous or spam-like application. That extreme possibility does not mean none should be included at all. We could make the same argument against including words. ~ QtheC 16:06, 26 March 2008 (CDT)
Q, I just have to say... "We could make the same argument against including words." WTF? In all seriousness, though, if you apply a userbox to one page, it's not really fair to draw an imaginary line to say "this userbox on this page is okay, but yours isn't". I don't see why they should be included at all, as my main point is still that the majority of Pedia readers (regardless of page content, unless we're talking about Pedia-referencing pages) have no care or use for userboxes.
Also, why isn't the new userbox location good enough? It's referenced in several locations where users would typically look. It's not like they're being hidden in some dank dungeon where only the brave can find them. - Shiori 20:48, 26 March 2008 (CDT)

Is there a reason why my username is here? Did I do something when I edited my user page? If you can, help me out and get me off of here. I'm a total N00b at this.
