Many videos in the lonelygirl15 series contain explicit references to popular culture. This page attempts to document those references.

References to books

Bree getting some new material for her videos.

• Daniel Returns, and More Interesting Factoids (Yay!) contains a references to Professor Calculus, a character in the Belgian Comic books, "The Adventures of Tintin."
• Proving Science Wrong! contains a reference to "The Tolstoy Principle" which is actually called The Anna Karenina Principle, and is a reference to Jared Diamond's "Guns, Germs and Steel."
• Still At Daniel's contains a references to the book Gulliver's Travels.
• Happy Thanksgiving contains a reference to Oliver Twist.
• Happy Thanksgiving, The Cowboy, and Quitting The Sauce contain references to Bruce Wayne (Batman's secret identity).
• Time To Grow Up contains a reference to Tweedledee and Tweedledum from Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking-Glass.
• Oh, The Places You'll Go is a reference to the Dr. Seuss book of the same name.
• I'm Here To Help contains a reference to Cliff Sawyer and the "other-dimensional world of Khom'ad" from a book by Henry Kuttner called "The Well of the Worlds".

References to movies

• Warwalking contains references to the Mathew Broderick movie, WarGames.
• Roadtrip contains a reference to a flux capacitor from the movie Back to the Future.
• Purple Monkey Returns contains a reference to the movie Point Break.
• 45 Seconds contains a reference to the Zapruder film.
• For The Ladies contains references to Can't Buy Me Love.
• Sleepover contains a reference to a scene in the movie "It Happened One Night" (1934).
• Storm The Castle contains a reference to The Princess Bride.
• Interrogation 101 and School's Out contain references to Reservoir Dogs.
• Flesh Wound is a reference to Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The camera work and dialogue may also be a reference to Reservoir Dogs.
• Spring Break Sucks contains a reference to The Matrix via Jonas's shirt.
• Spanglish is a reference to a movie of the same name, starring Adam Sandler, Téa Leoni and Spanish actress Paz Vega.
• Rockin' the Boat contains a reference to The Blue Lagoon, starring Brooke Shields.
• In We Have A Plan, Spencer uses a lightsaber.
• In Mission Alpha, Jonas references The Karate Kid, a martial-arts movie about an "underdog."
• In Varsity Blues, Daniel refers to Jonas as Casanova.

• My Name Is Jonas is a reference to a popular Weezer song of the same title.
• Sleepover contains references to The Beatles' song "Norwegian Wood," and The Sugarhill Gang song "Rapper's Delight".
• Truth Or Dare and Storm The Castle contain references to Jimi Hendrix's death.
• Bree Is Crazy compares Gemma to Posh Spice.
• Losing My Religion is a reference to the R.E.M. song of the same name.
• Blog Girl contains a reference to the Pink Floyd album, The Dark Side of the Moon.
• I Know What Boys Like is a reference to the 1982 song "I Know What Boys Like" by The Waitresses.
• Like A Virgin is a reference to the popular song by Madonna of the same name.
• Sweating Bullets may be a reference to a song by thrash metal band Megadeth.
• Going Back to Cali is a reference to two Hip-Hop songs: the 1988 single by LL Cool J, and the 1997 track by The Notorious B.I.G.

• Bree The Cookie Monster is likely a reference to the Cookie Monster of the childen's show Sesame Street.
• Where's Daniel? contains a reference to Carmen Sandiego which was a short-lived game-show as well as a long-running series of educational games.
• An Awkward Silence contains a references to Vicky Pollard, a fictional character from the BBC TV and radio show Little Britain played by Matt Lucas.
• My Name Is Jonas contains a reference to Max Headroom.
• The Anti-Cribs is a reference to the popular MTV show, Cribs.
• For The Ladies contains a reference to Gilligan's Island.
• Hug It Out is a reference to a popular quote from the TV show Entourage.
• In No Trespassing, Daniel refers to Taylor as "S-M-R-T," a reference to the episode of The Simpsons, "Homer Goes to College".
• Mr. Park Ranger may be a reference to Yogi Bear's name for his "nemesis," Ranger Smith.
• In Rockin' the Boat, Sarah is seen wearing a Grim shirt from the show "The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy."
• In Dude Back Off, Sarah compares herself to Mrs. Cleaver from Leave It To Beaver.
• In Going Back to Cali, Taylor refers to her mother's short shorts as Daisy Dukes.
• In Mission Alpha, Spencer says "Kick it up a notch!", which is a reference to the catchphrase of popular TV chef, Emeril Lagasse.
• In A Stranger Calls, TAAG discusses their favorite American Idol contestants.
• In Booby Trap?, Daniel accuses Sarah of watching too much of the television show 24.

• Nut Kills Man contains a reference to the popular game Rock, Paper, Scissors.
• Ransacked! contains a reference to the Rubik's Cube.
• Bree And I Hooked Up contains a reference to the "walk of shame," commonly practiced by college students the morning after an embarrassing hookup.
• Sorry Jonas contains a reference to the French Resistance in WWII.
• Hungover's video tags contain references to the Super Bowl.
• Valentine's Day Massacre contains references to the popular female empowerment term "girl power" and the St. Valentine's Day massacre.
• OUT OF THE BUNKER!!! contains a reference to the slogan "Don't Mess with Texas," the litter prevention campaign that has been educating Texans about litter prevention since 1986.
• In Deep Throat, Daniel refers to TCC as Deep Throat, the secret source who leaked information about the Watergate scandal to the press. In We Have A Plan, Spencer also refers to TCC as "Deep Throat."
• In We Have A Plan, Spencer compares himself to Edward Bond in Dark World.
