Transcript

(An empty chair in the office of Gavin and Tariq is seen in the dark. A laptop is laying on the desk in front of it. Suddenly Lee is in front of the camera.)

Lee: It's not who you were expecting, is it? (sits down on the chair) Hello Gavin, (leans forward) mate! Thought I just post this on your Bebo page. Oh, you don't mind I nicked your password, do you? Awww, I thought not. See, I was working late in the office. I was working on, on your corporate video and I thought "you know what, maybe our fans on the internet would like to see it." Oh, what's that? It's meant to be top secret? Not anymore! Mate! (laughs)

(The corporate video of Gavin and Tariq begins. The logo of their business G&T IT and images of Gavin and Tariq sitting behind a desk, typing on their laptops are shown.)

Gavin: Good morning and welcome to G&T IT, Europe's most exciting, new IT development company. This morning, we're pleased to introduce a once in a lifetime investment opportunity, which could allow you to be part of the technological surveillance revolution.

(The screen switches to Gavin and Tariq standing in front of a desk with a laptop on it.)

Tariq: For the last few months, our team of IT scientists have been refining "Project Orwell", a revolutionary new piece of software that will change the world as we know it.

Gavin: Using top secret network protocols, "Project Orwell" allows an user to use the internet to connect to and discretely activate the webcam of any computer in the world.

Tariq: Permit us to demonstrate.

(Tariq pushes a button on the laptop and several clips of webcamvideos are seen, including one of Daniel, from Lonelygirl15.)

(Tariq and Gavin are seen again, still standing at the desk.)

Tariq: A controversial infringement on human rights or a necessary next step in national security? However you look at it, the Orwell software provides it's users with an incredible...(the screen freezes and a click on a laptop is heard. Then we see Lee again.)

Lee: They have created an extremely illegal piece of software and plan on making lots of money of exploiting our privacy. So, maybe they aren't as dumb as they look. (smiles) Oh no, I'm wrong, yes they are! Gavin isn't too good at backing things up. So he ask me to do it! Big mistake! (picks up a drive from the table) I have wiped every trace of it from everywhere, except my drive! So if you ever wanna see your software again, you better start getting ready with your apologies! Investors aren't gonna like that too much are they?(Lee kisses his drive.)

Notes

  • Another male voice whispering in the background can be heard from 0:07-0:10.
  • In this video, we learn that Gavin's surname is Taylore and Tariq's is Bhartti. This is the first time a main character's surname was revealed in either Lonelygirl15 or KateModern.
  • The name of Gavin and Tariq's software, "Project Orwell," is a reference to author George Orwell, who wrote the novel 1984. In 1984, people were monitored through screens on the wall of every home and had no privacy, similar to what Gavin and Tariq are proposing.
  • At 01:50 in the video, a brief clip from The Email with Daniel can be seen, the first visual guest appearance of a character from LG15.
